Dirt riding in India is still in a nascent stage but tempting enough for a lot of riders to make their bike off-road friendly. Off-road tyres, custom bash plates and weight reduction are the few things we do to our otherwise road motorcycles. To go with the overall style, there’s a need of an off-road helmet. Getting a good dirt-bike helmet is equally difficult especially when there are limited brands in the affordable segment.

It’s just been a day since our Honda Africa Twin review went live and there’s already a lot of hype surrounding this adventure bike. While only 50 bikes have been allotted in the first lot, Honda has promised to bring a few more once all the bikes are delivered to its customers in November. However, the chances of Honda selling the bike for the same price is highly unlikely. Meanwhile, here are a few pictures of this automatic adventure bike from Udaipur. 

The versatility and a price tag of Rs 13.06 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), makes the Honda Africa Twin a tempting affair. We recently rode it in Udaipur and were highly impressed with what it has to offer. Here are five aspects of the Africa Twin that caught our attention. 

The Africa Twin is a litre class go-anywhere motorcycle from Honda that landed on Indian shores two months ago. It has come at a time when there has been a good growth in the adventure bike segment which is currently being ruled by the Triumph Tigers. This tall, handsome, red Japanese motorcycle is available only in DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) version because Honda felt that the USP of automatic gearbox will provide a great marketing advantage. Inspired from the legendary Paris Dakar Rally and its predecessors, this Africa Twin promises to change the adventure biking segment in India and for good.

Over the years the name ‘Multistrada’ has become synonymous with adventure touring. As Ducati launched the Multistrada 950 in India, we take a look at how it plays against its rivals, the Triumph Tiger XRx and the Honda Africa Twin.

‘The Africa Twin’ is revered by adventure motorcyclists around the world, due to its legacy. The original Africa Twin, the Honda XR750,was based on Honda's hugely successful rally bike - the NXR750, which won the Paris-Dakar Rally four times in the 1980s. The new Africa Twin’s styling has taken many cues from Honda’s popular CRF Rally bikes and the original Africa Twin.

The adventure touring segment has become one of the fastest growing segments in the motorcycle industry. The launch of the Honda Africa Twin also known as the CRF1000L marks the return of the ‘Africa Twin’ moniker to the segment, made famous by the XR750 which was a four-time winner at the Dakar rally. With numerous entries from the segment in the Indian market, we take a look at its direct rivals, the Triumph Tiger 800 XCx and the soon to be launched Ducati Multistrada 950.

The Honda Africa Twin has been launched in India at Rs 12.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Dealers have started accepting bookings for the adventure touring motorcycle for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh, with just 50 units being available in the first lot. 

The adventure bike segment saw a good growth in the last few years, thanks to the bikes like the Triumph Tiger and the Kawasaki Versys range. The segment will definitely find more takers when Honda launches the Africa Twin in July.
