Indian Motorcycle is an American manufacturer of premium cruiser motorcycles. In 2011, Polaris Industries, popularly known for its snowmobiles and ATVs, purchased the Indian brand and started production of new-gen Indian motorcycles. Indian has earned the distinction of being one of America’s most legendary and iconic brands owing to its racing heritage, engineering innovations and industry firsts.

The Indian Motocycle Company was originally founded by George M. Hendee in 1897 to manufacture bicycles. Oscar Hedstrom joined in 1900 and became a partner and chief engineer. Both Hendee and Hedstrom were former bicycle racers and manufacturers, and they teamed up to produce a motorcycle with a 1.75bhp, single-cylinder engine. The American manufacturer originally produced motorcycles from 1901 to 1953 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

In 2014, Polaris India launched the Indian Motorcycle brand here in India. As of now, Polaris offers the entire range of Indian motorcycles over here, all of which are imported to the country as completely built units (CBUs). Their portfolio includes the Chief range, Springfield, Roadmaster and the Scout.

The Chief line-up consists of a range of models including the old-school Chief Classic to the heavyweight luxury cruiser – the Chieftain. The Dark Horse is a blacked-out version of the Chief Classic while the Roadmaster and Springfield are luxury baggers. The Scout on the other hand is a complete departure from the rest of the range and is more of a lightweight and ‘fun’ motorcycle. While the Scout is based on a recently developed platform with a liquid-cooled engine, the rest of the line-up continues with Indian’s traditional air-cooled powertrains.

      Bike is amazing
      Rohit
My experience riding an Indian company bike has been consistently satisfying and practical for everyday use. From the moment I start the engine, the bike feels smooth and refined, giving a sense of reliability that builds confidence on the road. The upright seating position and comfortable seat make long rides far easier, especially when I have to travel through mixed traffic or cover longer distances for college or daily work.

      Very nice to Ride
      Manoj N
Got the delivery on 5th Sept 2025. Being the first owner from India was a nice feeling. I like the way it handles; cornering is easy and it can zip past others when overtaking. Pricing is a bit too high for my liking; however, since it's an Indian brand, they are charging for the legacy. Not suitable for very tall riders; if you are over 6.3, please don't buy and look for other options.

Very a superb bike to ride for everyday torque and the seating is good to feel while riding recommended to buy. Look compared to other bikes extremally superb, the seating and handling are very good. You just fly the way to so. The overall rating will be good and the price will be the one issue for all the people.

    • Indian 101 Scout
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) – The New King of Performance Cruisers
      27 weeks ago
      Samrat Das
What Makes it a 5-Star Ride: • That SpeedPlus Engine: The 1250cc liquid-cooled V-twin is a masterpiece. With 111 horsepower and 82 ft-lb of torque, it has a broad, meaty powerband. It pulls hard from a standstill and has more than enough top-end to make highway passing effortless. • Precision Handling: Unlike many cruisers that feel like steering a boat, the 101 Scout feels agile. The adjustable piggyback shocks and inverted front forks provide a firm, sporty ride that stays composed in the corners without breaking your back on bumpy city streets. • Stop-on-a-Dime Braking: The dual-disk Brembo brakes are a game changer. The bite is immediate and predictable, giving you a level of confidence usually reserved for naked sportbikes. • Tech Done Right: The 4-inch touchscreen display (Ride Command) is brilliant. It looks like a classic analog gauge until you realize it has turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth, and selectable ride modes (Sport, Standard, and Tour). The Aesthetic The "101" styling is aggressive. From the custom-stitched solo seat to the 6-inch risers and the blacked-out finish, it looks mean right off the showroom floor. It turns heads at every stoplight, and the fit and finish feel premium—no cheap plastic vibes here.

    • Indian Super Scout
One of the best cruiser bikes i have driven
      50 weeks ago
      Gurwaris Singh
The Super Scout's heart is its liquid-cooled 1250cc "SpeedPlus" V-twin engine. Power: It delivers approximately 105 horsepower and 108 Nm of torque, which provides strong, linear acceleration. Reviewers note that this gives the bike effortless city performance and easy highway cruising at triple-digit speeds. Gearing: Its six-speed transmission has tall gears, which is excellent for highway cruising but can be somewhat cumbersome for stop-and-go city traffic, requiring frequent clutch work. Engine modes: A stepped-up "Limited" trim offers selectable ride modes (Rain, Standard, and Sport) that noticeably alter the bike's character, transforming its relaxed cruising nature into an aggressive, powerful ride. Design and styling The Super Scout maintains the iconic, timeless look of a classic American cruiser, with tasteful chrome touches and a low-slung stance. Standard touring features: Factory-fitted with a quick-release windshield and saddlebags, it is ready for longer rides out of the box. Pillion comfort: Unlike some of its solo-seated Scout siblings, the Super Scout comes equipped with a two-up seat and grab rail for a passenger. Wheels: It features 16-inch, wire-spoke wheels wrapped in Pirelli MT60RS tires, enhancing both its classic visual appeal and handling. Ride and handling For a touring cruiser, the Super Scout offers a balanced and surprisingly nimble ride, though its weight is noticeable. Riding position: The ergonomics provide a comfortable, upright posture suitable for longer journeys, with mid-controls that help center your weight. The low 680mm seat height makes it accessible to a wide range of riders. Suspension: The dual-shock rear suspension provides a firm but controlled ride, smoothing out most bumps but feeling the impact on sharper road imperfections. Braking: The single front disc brake is considered adequate but lacks the strong bite desired for a high-performance bike of this size and power, especially when braking from speed. Technology and features Modern tech is integrated subtly, without disrupting the bike's retro charm. Instrumentation: The top-tier "Limited+Tech" trim features a 4-inch round touchscreen with Indian's Ride Command system, offering GPS navigation, real-time vehicle data, and Bluetooth connectivity. Rider aids: All Super Scouts come with standard ABS, traction control, and cruise control. Premium touches: Keyless ignition and a USB charging port are standard on the "Limited" and "Limited+Tech" trims. The verdict The Indian Super Scout successfully packages classic cruiser style with modern performance and long-haul touring capabilities. The potent 1250cc engine is a highlight, delivering a powerful and enjoyable ride on the open road. However, its handling characteristics, particularly the braking performance and city nimbleness, lag behind more modern competitors. It’s an ideal choice for riders who want a comfortable, capable, and undeniably stylish American touring cruiser, especially in the feature-rich "Limited+Tech" trim. For many riders, the bike's commanding presence and powerful engine make up for its minor shortcomings.
