  • The best commute cruiser

    Swaraj Mandla

Hey guys i was little puzzled when i moved to Hyderabad, about my commute options in Jan,2016. I was forced to buy a bike and was thinking of going for royal enfield but i felt it would be too heavy for daily commute. So i doubtfully opted for a cruiser(avenger 150 street). Since the day this bike has surprised me in various aspects like looks, drive quality, mileage. I clocked 28000 kilometers till date using it for daily commute.

Looks: this being a cruiser it stands in the crowd with a superb low ride and bulky looking petrol tank and the handle bar adds a hint of styling to it.

Drive quality: the drive quality is so good i have driven the bike 28000kms i say the seating is bliss till date i haven't felt a small jerk while driving in heavy traffic, suspension is like a cotton pillow it just takes the bumps so smoothly.

Mileage & maintenance : its been reliable in terms of constant mileage even in harsh driving conditions (45kms) with constant periodical oil change for every 2000kms and tyre grip is fabulous the only con that i can talk about is your tushy will start aching after driving it like 2 hours continuously. I can speak from my experience you can just rely on it in any weather and conditions. One small thing though some times it takes a bit of time to adjust the pickup. As it comes from the trusted Indian maker bajaj it stands up its name.

    1) it was in july 2016 i bought avenger street 150. It was a dream come true day for me. This is my second bike. Each and every day use to clean my bike. Still it is having its sleek look when i got it.

    2) riding in avenger is really a feel like god experience. So far i have done 3 long trips. With no issues have been faced. Only issue while going for long rides is when your fellow riders are having an higher cc bikes the power is not enough to equalise them. And this bike should have higher torque.

    3) look wise its kick ass. The main attraction of this avenger is its new look. And performance also this bike easily touches 80-90km/hr and 100-110km/hr is capable. But the petrol will be too much consumption when it was in 100km/hr and above. The old avenger was not much impressive as the new. Vibration wise i haven't felt any thing in 100+. Gear shifting is an another big problem. It is not smoother. Need to shift two times during 4th gear to 5th gear. Mileage it averagely gives 45km in city traffic. Highway it gives 50km/ltr with an average speed of 80km-90km/hr speed.

    4) one of the worst part is servicing the bike at service station. They just clean and give it. On second servicing they even didn't water wash. Then i felt to quit the bajaj free service. Maintenance wise please use once in a week bike polish to whole vehicle along with water wash. Daily clean the vehicle once to avoid dust settling. Service your vehicle 3000km once in a good service station. Use same grade motul oil for better performance.

    5) pros: look, engine performance, handling, mileage, maintenance, comfort riding etc.,

Cons: authorised service station, gear shifting problem, absence of disc brakes in rear wheels, less power for 150cc bikes compared to other bikes in same category, sitting cushions should have been little more better, absence of tubeless tyres.

Amazing bike, amazing performance, ride position is very comfortable. Bajaj services are good. Whoever says Indian brand bikes are not good, show them how bajaj avenger ruling the roads. Very excellent for long tours, especially in pune locality, as there are many amazing roads with scenic beauty and the avenger feels special on such roads and weather......

  • A perfect blend of cruiser and commuter

I bought my avenger 150 in November 2016. I made this decision after excessive brainstorming on every criteria like mileage, speed, comfort etc. I was confused between apache 160, v15, and avenger 150.

Apache 160 had speed, but it wasn't sturdy nor comfortable.

V15 had an excellent built quality (very rugged), it was very cheap and was a bit comfortable too, but the length of the bike isn't sufficient. It can accommodate only half of pillion rider's body, rest of his body hangs without any support.

Now let's come to avenger 150.

    Pros:

Comfort: extremely comfortable. And i am pretty serious about it. I rate it as the most comfortable bike of India. I bet you won't face any back problems even if you ride it for years. Royal enfield thunderbird too is a comfortable bike, but it vibrates a lot. Avenger, on other hand has a smooth engine and doesn't vibrate or make ear-bursting sounds. It has a straight and low sitting posture which ensures almost no stress on the hands. And the leg-rest is at an excellent position which gives you a typical cruising posture.

Stability: due to it's heavy build and thick rear tyre, it almost sticks to the road while riding and hardly you can lose the balance. Even if you take you hands off the handle, it'll barely lean.

Looks: avenger has the most unique look. One can fathom it's strength, build, ruggedness and speed from the very looks itself. I'd already judged avenger from it's looks before taking a test ride. The midnight blue colour is perfect and almost blends in every background. Front view of bike is a bit weak, but my favourite view is the side view ( especially the front wheel extending out of the main body). The tyres have black alloy wheels which give a feel of a sporting cruiser.

    Cons:

Speed: though avenger 150 might give a sporty look, but speed is something where it disappoints me. You can feel the reluctance of this bike when you exceed 70kmph. And you've to compromise on the mileage when you ride above 80kmph. Though people claim that it's top speed is 105kmph, but don't ever try taking it above 100kmph.

Sales and service: this is just applicable for my city Ahmadabad only. The showroom from where i bought my bike was operating in a basement. Total lack of professionalism.

Mileage: mileage is below average considering the engine capacity. My avenger gives an average of 43kmpl. It could be because of it's kerb weight. Compared to pulsar 150 which gives a mileage of 55-60kmpl, avenger 150 is a clear looser.

Whatever the cons be, the pros totally overshadow them. I love riding this bike and i do feel like god, every-time i ride it.

  • A perfect blend of cruiser and commuter

    Mangalya

Try not to exceed 90 kmph during highways and long tours, as no ABS and rear Disc brake is provided, it would be difficult to control
