Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Summary

Price: Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 price for its variant - Super Meteor 650 Astral is estimated at Rs. 3,63,900. The price for the other variants - Super Meteor 650 Interstellar and Super Meteor 650 Celestial are Rs. 3,79,123 and Rs. 3,94,347. The mentioned Super Meteor 650 prices are the average ex-showroom.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is a cruiser bike available in 3 variants and 7 colours. The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is powered by 648cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 46.3 bhp and a torque of 52.3 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 comes up with anti-locking braking system. This Super Meteor 650 bike weighs 241 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 15.7 liters.

Royal Enfield has launched the new Super Meteor 650 in the Indian market and this motorcycle is available in two variants – standard and Tourer.

In terms of styling, the new Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 carries a cruiser motorcycle design. The styling cues on both variants of this new Royal Enfield motorcycle include a round headlight at the front, an aluminium finish on the switchgear, a curvy fuel tank with 3D logos, a split-style seat, and twin-sided exhaust pipes. The Tourer version further benefits from touring-focused hardware such as a tall windscreen for better windblast protection and a pillion backrest for enhanced comfort. Royal Enfield will also offer a wide range of accessories to further customise these motorcycles.

The standard version is available in five colour options – Astral Black, Astral Blue, Astral Green, Interstellar Grey, and Interstellar Green. Meanwhile, the Super Meteor 650 Tourer, has been listed in two paint options – Celestial Red and Celestial Blue.

The differences between the two variants are limited to styling cues. Meanwhile, the mechanical specifications on both variants include the same 648cc, parallel-twin, air-cooled motor that also powers the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to produce 46.2bhp and 52Nm of peak torque on the Super Meteor 650. Royal Enfield says that the Super Meteor 650 gets a different engine map and gear ratios as compared to the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. The Super Meteor 650 tips the weighing scale at 241kg, making it substantially heavier than the existing 650cc Royal Enfield motorcycles.

Standard features on both variants include an LED headlight and a semi-digital instrument cluster with Royal Enfield’s Tripper Navigation system that works with Google Maps and shows turn-by-turn directions. Then, the electronic aids comprise dual-channel ABS.

Notably, the new Super Meteor 650 rides on alloy wheels instead of wire-spoke units on the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. Thus, this cruiser motorcycle comes with tubeless tyres. The suspension tasks are handled by upside-down front forks and twin-sided rear springs. Further, the braking setup comprises single discs on both wheels along with ByBre-sourced calipers.

The Super Meteor 650 has been priced competitively and the only rivals to this Royal Enfield compete in a much higher price range. These include the Kawasaki Vulcan S and the Benelli 502C.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Review

  • Good Things

    • 649cc parallel-twin engine offers good performance
    • Overall fit and finish are good
    • Good seating comfort
  • Could be Better

    • Heavy kerb weight
    • Stiff ride quality

BikeWale's Take

The Super Meteor 650 is a proper cruiser that gets great aspirational styling, good comfort level and an engine that churns out great performance. It is loaded with some modern features too. In fact, this bike gets an LED headlight. However, due to its cruiser nature, the bike is on the heavier side and also gets a stiff ride quality.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Expert Opinion

We have already written lots about the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 from stories detailing its specifications, features, trim levels and colours. The only thing that remained was the riding experience, which we intend to rectify with this piece. But let us begin with visual cues.

Introduction

Why buy it?

- Great road presence

- Authentic cruiser vibes

- Lovely engine

Why avoid it?

- Busy ride quality

- Heavy kerb weight

We have already written lots about the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 from stories detailing its specifications, features, trim levels and colours. The only thing that remained was the riding experience, which we intend to rectify with this piece. But let us begin with visual cues.

The Visuals

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Left Side View

The Super Meteor kills it with its styling and stance. The motorcycle looks bigger than the Interceptor. Plus, it looks nicer and more emotive in the flesh than it does in pictures or videos. The visual bulk is courtesy of the large tank, the fat rear fender, the enlarged fuel injection covers, and the wide and tall rear 16-inch wheel and tyre combo.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Right Side View

The desirability comes from its typical cruiser design elements like the raked-out front, the low scooped seat, and the horizontal tailpipes. Furthermore, in this top-spec Celestial trim, the windscreen, the taller and pulled-back handlebar, and the two-tone paint finish for the fuel tank work towards enhancing the Super Meteor’s visual appeal.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Front View

The detailing on the motorcycle is good too. The badge is a chunky and solid-looking interpretation of the traditional RE logo. The dark matte finish on the engine's cases and valve cover work beautifully in contrast with the chrome exhaust. There are satin chrome highlights all around, from the switch cubes to the fork tees to the headlight hangers. These exude a sense of effort and richness that owners are bound to appreciate every time they look at their bikes.

The Package

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Engine From Left

The Super Meteor borrows its engine from the Interceptor and the Continental GT 650. Even though Royal Enfield has changed the intake and exhaust on the new bike, the output figures of 47bhp of max power and 52Nm of peak torque remain unchanged. The six-speed gearbox continues unchanged as well.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Front Wheel

The chassis and suspension are new, though. The former has been redesigned to suit the cruiser stance better, while the upside-down front forks and the rear coil-over units offer more travel now compared to the INT and GT. A happy byproduct of this change is a very accessible seat height of 740mm, which is significantly lower than even the Interceptor.

Additionally, the Super Meteor runs a larger rear disc brake in line with cruiser essentials. The wheels - 19-inch at the front and 16-inch at the rear - are now alloys shod with tubeless tyres. It also features an all-LED headlamp, adjustable levers for the clutch and the front brake, the tripper navigation unit, and dual-channel ABS.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Right Side View

When seated, the riding triangle of the Super Meteor is again quintessentially cruiser-like with forward-set footpegs and a wide handlebar that comes to the rider instead of the latter having to reach for it. This is more pronounced in the Celestial version thanks to the handlebar riser that moves the handle even closer to the rider. There’s also nothing to foul with the rider’s leg when pedaling through traffic or pushing the bike around in a parking lot. This is down to the forward-placed rider’s footpegs and an exhaust routing that's nicely tucked under the engine.

The Ride

However, the real fun begins when you press the motor into business. The 650 twin has always been a joy to engage with on the road, and it is no different on the Super Meteor.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Left Side View

It has good low and mid-range torque that makes the motorcycle feel lighter than it is. Plus, one can comfortably short shift and rely on the engine’s meaty torque to handle everything from overtakes to changes in cruising speed. Thinking and planning to stay in the optimal power-band isn’t something that plagues a 650 rider, which for a cruiser is fantastic. Every time you open the throttle, it picks up its skirt and gets going, no matter the rpm.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Left Side View

It is also still a smooth and near vibe-free engine. And it can sit at three-digit speeds all day without a hint of bother. It also gets there without delay, with a sonorous intake and a soothing exhaust note accompanying the acceleration. Sitting at 100kmph or 120kmph comes easy to the Super Meteor. But, roads that allow the latter are few and far in between.

If anything, we would have liked the gearshift quality to be a little slicker. It is possibly down to the extended gearshift linkage as part of the revised placement of the footpegs. But, given our experiences with the INT and GT, we expected the Meteor 650 to deliver the same level of crispness.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Left Front Three Quarter

The handling of the Super Meteor did pleasantly surprise us, however. Now, it is not as involving or fun to ride as the Interceptor or the GT, but, it is no slouch either. Sure, it takes a little more effort to get the motorcycle to change directions courtesy of the lazier rake angle and the bigger front wheel compared to its other 650cc siblings. But, once it begins leaning into a bend, it does so in a flowing and linear manner. Moreover, after a few corners, your mind and responses adjust to the larger Meteor's mildly slower but the sure-footed dance of changing directions. And then, it begins to feel quite delightful.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Left Side View

The longer rake and the bigger front wheel do have their advantages. It gives the motorcycle a more planted feel in a straight line at speed, which is confidence-inspiring. As a result, the Super Meteor feels completely at home when riding across Rajasthan. And, it should be the same when doing a Mumbai-Delhi run or travelling from the west coast to the east coast of India via Solapur and Hyderabad.

The ride quality, however, could be better. It feels fine on a well-paved road. But even the slightest patchwork on the road begins to show the chinks in the Super Meteor’s comfort armour.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Rear View

The front upside forks work well. These absorb the patch works and even bumps and potholes with a sense of plushness. But, the rear feels unsettled on anything but the smoothest of roads. The ride feels busy over mildly broken roads but hit a big pothole or bump, and the rear twin shock setup shocks your back quite uncomfortably. It is not something one enjoys with foot-forward seating.

Should you buy it?

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 thumbnail

The Super Meteor 650 is a lovely motorcycle. But given that the 650cc twin was its starting point, it was always going to be endearing. The fact that it is in a class of its own also gives it a big advantage. Yes, you have the Kawasaki Vulcan S; also a 650cc, twin-cylinder feet-forward cruiser. But, it is near twice the price.

The competition then - in a sense - comes from within the family; namely the Interceptor 650. But, apart from the powertrain, the two bikes are vastly different.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Left Side View

The Super Meteor, for instance, is the better motorcycle for long-distance riding. Its tailpipe design allows for easy mounting of the luggage. Its longer, plusher seat and more comfortable seating triangle for the pillion make it the better two-seater. And, with its raked-out front, lazy seating and a cushier rider’s seat, it is also nicer of the two to spend long hours on.

And even though it is Rs 80,000 more expensive than the Interceptor 650, it justifies this premium with handy add-ons.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Right Side View

The bigger Meteor gets alloy wheels, USD front forks, a bigger rear brake disc, more up-to-date instrumentation, LED lights, and adjustable levers, which are missing on the INT650. So, if you see the Interceptor as good value, then the Super Meteor with the extras, even with a higher price tag, should naturally seem the same.

      Pure Cruising

      Nitin Kumar

I bought the Celestial Red model in November 2023. Look it is the best version. My experience of buying was quite smooth.
I was very clear that I wanted to buy a cruiser bike which must be more than 350 CC and that`s how I decided to buy Super Meteor 650.
You can`t get a better cruising at this price. This bike's performance is top-notch.
Pickup is like the gun. I have cruised till 120, it's very stable.
For long rides it is perfect, the sitting posture makes it easy to ride the bike for hours.
I got the first servicing of the bike, it was 3.5k, which is fair.
Since this is a superbike so there has to be a clear understanding of this bike, it will require that kind of maintenance as well.
This bike is not suitable for daily commutes. This bike is made for long rides and touring.
Pros: 1. Road Presence 2. Power and performance 3. Long rides
Cons: 1. Heavy vehicle 2. Above average maintenance.

Rolling Like Thunder: My Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Odyssey in India

      Shourya Kumar

Thrumming beneath me, the Super Meteor's exhaust hums a symphony of freedom. Owning this cruiser in India since its 2023 launch has been an electrifying adventure, full of twists and turns, just like the roads I've conquered. Here's my insider take, covering everything from the thrill of buying to the grit of servicing, as a fellow Super Meteor rider in this beautiful chaos we call India.
      1. Buying Experience:
The showroom felt like a cathedral, the Meteor gleaming like a chrome altar on display. The purchase process was a smooth ride, although the waitlist did test my patience a tad. But finally, there I was, keys in hand, ready to christen the open road.
      2. Riding Experience:
Ah, the ride! First thing that hits you is the comfort. The low seat and stretched-out posture embrace you like a leather armchair. Twisting the throttle unleashes a surge of smooth power, not a fire-breathing beast, but a steady companion. Handling is surprisingly nimble, carving through cityscapes with ease. On highways, the Meteor cruises like a majestic ship, wind whispering tales in your helmet.
      3. Looks & Performance:
Let's face it, the Meteor turns heads. The classic silhouette, sculpted tank, and chrome accents are pure cruiser eye candy. Performance matches the aesthetics – it's not a speed demon, but the 650cc engine packs enough punch for confident overtaking and spirited sprints. The exhaust purrs a low growl, a constant reminder of the beast beneath.
      4. Servicing & Maintenance:
Here's where things get a little bumpy. Finding experienced mechanics for this new steed can be tricky. The first service was smooth, but subsequent ones felt like navigating a maze of checklists and explanations. Parts availability can be an occasional hiccup, especially for non-essential accessories. However, Royal Enfield's service network is steadily expanding, so hopefully, things will smoothen out.
      5. Pros & Cons:
      Pros:
Comfort: Feels like your living room on wheels, perfect for long hauls.
Handling: Surprisingly agile for its size, nimble in traffic and stable on highways.
Looks: Classic cruiser charm, turns heads everywhere you go.
Performance: Smooth, reliable engine with enough power for everyday riding.
Community: A growing tribe of Meteor riders across India, camaraderie on the road.
      Cons:
Heat Management: The engine can get quite toasty in Indian summers, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
Ground Clearance: Be cautious of large speed bumps and potholes.
Servicing: Learning curve for finding skilled mechanics and dealing with occasional parts availability issues.
Power: Not a speed demon, might not thrill adrenaline junkies.
      Verdict:
The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is a cruiser with a soul. It's not perfect, but its flaws are overshadowed by its charm, comfort, and the sheer joy of cruising Indian roads. If you're looking for a timeless companion to explore the vast tapestry of landscapes our country offers, the Meteor won't disappoint. Just be prepared for the occasional heat wave and service quirks.
Overall, I wouldn't trade my Super Meteor for anything. It's more than just a bike; it's a passport to adventure, a testament to the unyielding spirit of the open road, and a rumbling reminder that life is best lived on two wheels.
So, fellow riders hit the streets, let the wind brush your face, and experience the magic of the Super Meteor. Just remember, it's not the destination, but the journey that matters, and with this cruiser by your side, every mile is an adventure waiting to be written.
      Ride safe, ride free!

      Tips for other riders

General Care: Wash regularly: Use a gentle car wash soap and avoid harsh chemicals. Don't neglect the undercarriage, especially after muddy rides. Wax and polish: Regular waxing protects the paint and chrome from harsh conditions. Tyre check: Maintain recommended tyre pressure. Check for tread wear and damage regularly. Chain maintenance: Lubricate the chain regularly (every 500 km) with a good motorcycle chain lube. Avoid over-lubrication. Battery care: Keep the battery terminals clean and tight. If the bike sits unused for long, consider using a trickle charger. Engine and Fluids: Oil changes: Stick to the recommended oil change intervals, especially during the break-in period. Use high-quality motorcycle oil. Air filter: Check the air filter for dirt and debris regularly. Replace it as per the manufacturer's recommendations. Spark plugs: Inspect spark plugs for wear and replace them if necessary. Coolant: Check coolant level and condition regularly. Top up or replace as needed. Pre-Ride Checks: Tyre pressure: Check and adjust tyre pressure before every ride. Lights: Ensure all lights and indicators are functioning properly. Brakes: Test the front and rear brakes for proper functionality. Fluid levels: Check oil, coolant, and brake fluid levels. Additional Tips: Ride responsibly: Follow traffic rules and avoid overspeeding. Warm up the engine: Let the engine warm up before riding off, especially in cold weather. Avoid overheating: Take breaks during long rides to allow the engine to cool down. Store properly: Park the bike in a cool, dry place when not in use. Follow the user manual: Refer to the manufacturer's manual for specific maintenance instructions and schedules.

      Very powerful and refined engine

I got my Super Meteor 650 on 08/10/23.
CONS: I have faced multiple issues with high speeds, especially with the windshield, which is a joke for sure, wind always hits your face and the headlight is even an utter joke at night times especially if you ride while riding in the rain at manufacturer made a grave mistake giving an underpowered headlights. A touring seat is a must as after 200-250 km you will feel sore on your lower back and buttocks, worst part for pillion riders, the stock seat will numb your lower back if you sit as a pillion and with a pillion rider you might experience a road hump hitting your bike even with experience and short turning radius will give you fatigue at city rides. Many extra accessories are still not available at showrooms yet so have to wait for months to collect them (still waiting for touring seats and foot pegs), LED headlights are damn delicate, you cannot replace them easily as accessories are not available at the showroom in Mysore, Karnataka.
PROS: You will experience a mid-level cruiser on highways if you are at 70-80 kmph, you don't even have to shift gear while overtaking, the bike's power is awesome, mileage is awesome on highways, can cruise easily at 90-110. Even at hill station roads, you can easily maneuver at lower speeds. Has great pick-up and a relaxed position.

Make sure you apply oil at chains every 200-250 km, and please go for PPF coating rather than ceramic coating. Make sure you calculate your mileage and fill the petrol accordingly fuel gauge will be at fault while riding in the rain

While riding the bike, I also show a full attitude, I love my loved ones, and that is why I ride the bike a little slowly. Hey, just sit with me on the bike for a few moments, just sit carefully and keep your hand on my shoulder. The tension of buying a new bike is the fashion of today's youth. To fulfil the duty of keeping the family safe, every member of the family should wear a helmet while riding a bike.
