The Honda Shine is a popular commuter motorcycle known for its reliability, efficiency, and comfortable riding experience. Here's a detailed review of the Honda Shine:
    **Design and Build:**
The Honda Shine boasts a simple yet stylish design. It features a sleek and aerodynamic body with attractive graphics and a well-finished paint job. The build quality is commendable, with sturdy components that can withstand daily commuting and occasional rough usage.
    **Engine and Performance:**
The Honda Shine is equipped with a refined 124cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine produces around 10.74 bhp of power and 11 Nm of torque. While it may not be the most powerful bike in its segment, it offers a smooth and predictable power delivery. The engine is known for its reliability and fuel efficiency, making it an excellent choice for city commuting and occasional highway trips.
    **Ride and Handling:**
One of the standout features of the Honda Shine is its comfortable ride and excellent handling. The bike has a well-tuned suspension system that can absorb minor bumps and provide a smooth ride. The handling is precise and stable, making it easy to maneuver through traffic. The seat is comfortable for both the rider and pillion, which adds to the overall riding experience.
    **Brakes and Safety:**
The Honda Shine comes equipped with a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. This combination provides adequate stopping power, ensuring good control over the bike. However, it's worth noting that some competitors offer options for front and rear disc brakes for improved braking performance.
    **Fuel Efficiency:**
One of the standout characteristics of the Honda Shine is its excellent fuel efficiency. It can deliver mileage figures of around 55-60 kmpl in city conditions and even higher on highways, depending on riding habits. This makes it an economical choice for daily commuting.
    **Features:**
While the Honda Shine is not loaded with advanced features, it comes with essential elements like a digital-analog instrument cluster, tubeless tires, and a DC headlamp. These features add to the convenience and safety of the bike.
    **Price and Value for Money:**
The Honda Shine is competitively priced in its segment, making it an attractive choice for budget-conscious buyers. Considering its reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfortable ride, it offers good value for money.
    **Conclusion:**
In summary, the Honda Shine is a reliable and efficient commuter motorcycle with a focus on practicality and comfort. It may not have the most powerful engine or the latest tech features, but it excels in providing a hassle-free and economical riding experience, which is precisely what many riders look for in a commuter bike. If you prioritize reliability and efficiency in your daily commute, the Honda Shine is worth considering.

The fuel tank cap problem not shutting, in the running engine is going on and off, in this problem riding in traffic is very difficult and feel shame, its jerks and off, when you apply sudden brake changing gears from 3rd to 1st is a problem etc. Earlier I am having passion which I rode for up to 17 years and never gave any problems.

  • Perfect mileage bike for daily office goers

    Vignesh

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox engine is simply smooth and make less noise. Pickup at the start is slow but once you pickup pace the acceleration improves.

One of the best mileage bikes around ~65km/l given that you drive under controlled conditions. (Remember this is not a race bike).

Maintaining speed limits to 40-50 km, avoiding frequent brakes, periodic bike service will definitely get you atleast 60km/l.

Switching between gears is as smooth as butter. But as regular bikes, gear wobbles a bit when you are on the top gear and you brake hard and down shift.

Ride quality & handling ride quality is amazing and has good seating space for a couple. Not space crunched unlike latest bike versions. Especially comfortable for women pillion riders.

Final words a perfect bike for daily use. No regrets after you own it.

Areas of improvement bike could be more stylish.

    Pros

excellent mileage under controlled driving conditions; less maintenance; long term performance

    cons

    poor pickup; starting trouble

I bought bs6 honda shine a month back, buying experience is good, riding experience also good but with gear shift problem, it performs well in 1st to 3rd gear, service center people didn't address the gear shift issue and they know if is common in bs6 model, overall ok bike, but seating comfort is nice for longer distance.

  • A utility champion commuter

    Thousif

Buying experience (or rather lack of it)

We were in need for a no nonsense 125 cc commuter. It should be fill it-shut it-forget it.

It will be strictly used for home-office-home commute. No spirited driving, no long trips.

We were in a dilemma between hero glamour and shine. We visited both the showrooms and they were the same. Leave alone the test ride, they did not offer us a printed price list. All they gave us a brochure and written a final on road price on it.

*scam alert* the calculated road tax + rto charges was more than 2000 than actual. When asked for clarification for it. They told the money is to grease the hands of officials of rto for quick inspection and registration (this is what they told us.)

We finalized for shine as both the bikes are same in nearly all aspects. I always liked the exhaust of honda engines that purrs like a cat.

we paid the amount in cash and told we will get the permanent registration all by our self.

We were taken to the godown where all bikes are stored. He asked us to choose one among it.

I was not happy with the basic accessory kit (seat covers, crash guard, handle grips) but i has no choice but to take it.

They fitted the accessories and filled 100 ml of petrol (i had just paid 70000 rupees but the showroom guys were hesitant to even add extra one drop to their 7 rs of petrol).

They brought the bike outside and handed to us without even dusting.

I was very disappointed with the showroom guys and swore that i will not see them in my life once the free services completes. I was very unhappy to take dusty new bike home.

Honda dealers do not care about one bit about customer experience as long their products like activas fly off the shelves like hot cakes.

    Riding experience:

Till the time i took the bike, my father used to ride it. He is a very sedate and a careful rider and it barely clocked 20000 kms in three years. Services are done in right intervals. The bike is in excellent condition barring few scratches on the body while parking in congested areas.

The suspension is very comfortable on our rural non-existent roads. It is little bit stiff than glamour but it ain’t no corner carver. Just handles a little bit better.

The low end torque is very good when compared to its peers. As all its peers are calibrated to big fat mileage figures. This difference in torque will be evident once you ride them back to back. I stalled the engine of glamour at a hump which i used to take comfortably in second gear on cb shine.

Out on an open road the bike pulls cleanly to 60kmph without any drama. But after that the progress is slow and not very confidence inspiring. The buzz starts from its foot pegs first and then the handle bar. I always thought shine should have a fifth gear and then the engine would be running at lesser rpm and there will be no vibration. Honda addressed this concern with cb shine sp edition.

The gear shifts are nice and sure slotting most of the times. The bike’s low beam is ok but the high beam begs for an upgrade. I have upgraded them to osram night breakers.

They tires are 90/90 section mrf tires. They are good on dry surfaces but the front tire tend to slip a lot in wet conditions. When running on these tires please decrease your speed by 10% in wet conditions. I managed to lock up the rear tire once in emergency braking conditions. I had heart in my mouth for a moment. The next day i have changed to ceat tires (softer compound). They are satisfactory.

The last patch to our house is a muddy road and going there in a rainy season is nothing less than off-roading but the bike never stalled in the middle.

    looks, performance, maintenance

The bikes looks good in those black alloys but nothing more to write home about. There is no exclusivity factor. They are just too many of them on the road. In a way it is good as the spares availability is good and easy.

The bike is regularly at a neighborhood mechanic who specializes in these commuter bikes. He is just awesome. The bikes is serviced regularly after 2000kms. The bikes runs on elf 10w40 synthetic engine oil. It is just amazing and smooth. You can immediately feel the difference. Mileage will go down by a couple of kms but the smoothness make up for it. Honda recommends 10w30 grade engine oil. But my mechanic says it is not optimum for hot south Indian climate.

The maintenance is very pocket friendly and all the parts are very durable. In this three years of ownership apart from regular consumables like engine oil, clutch plates etc. Only extra things i have changed is

    1. Head light bulbs (just upgraded the original ones are working)

    2. Battery after three years

    3. Rear brake light bulb.

    4. Rear tyre (a precautionary upgrade)

    Pros:

    1. Bullet proof reliability

    2. Pocket friendly maintenance and running costs.

    3. Smooth torquey 125cc engine

    4. Good pillion comfort and comfortable suspension

    Cons

    1. Cheap switch gear

    2. Weak head light and thin tires

    3. Horrible after sales and service experiences with dealers

    Last words.

I know my bike is not a speed champion or corner carver. But it does everything right for what it is bought for. A humble commuter which never lets me down even at a midnight. I never have second thoughts while going on to a deserted highway in the middle of the night that my bike would stop and never start. All it asks for is fuel and little bit care once in 2000 kms .It never throws up tantrums in rainy weather or muddy roads. I love my bike for what it is and it will be with me for a long time. A gentle man said “motor cycling moves your souls”. It moves mine every time i ride it. I feel happy once i look back at it while walking into my house after parking in the porch.

Honda recommends 10w30 grade engine oil. But my mechanic says it is not optimum for hot south Indian climate.

The maintenance is very pocket friendly and all the parts are very durable. In this three years of ownership apart from regular consumables like engine oil, clutch plates etc. Only extra things i have changed is

    1. Head light bulbs (just upgraded the original ones are working)

    2. Battery after three years

    3. Rear brake light bulb.

    4. Rear tyre (a precautionary upgrade)

    Pros:

    1. Bullet proof reliability

    2. Pocket friendly maintenance and running costs.

    3. Smooth torquey 125cc engine

    4. Good pillion comfort and comfortable suspension

    Cons

    1. Cheap switch gear

    2. Weak head light and thin tires

    3. Horrible after sales and service experiences with dealers

    Last words.

I know my bike is not a speed champion or corner carver. But it does everything right for what it is bought for. A humble commuter which never lets me down even at a midnight.

In the website they will say millage 60 but from the day one onward i never get it.
