I buy my bike on 12-12-12 , even though after 5 years it's pickup was awesome.

It's grey coloured baby, mask was damn good and cat eyes are really messy.

Servicing and maintenance is affordable but it's chains packet is the only draw back.

It's initial pickup was good so it can easily fly in traffic.

    Finally racing dna unleashed.

When buying the first bikes of life everybody gets confused. Wasn't an exception for me. I shortlisted bajaj pulsar as 150, yamaha fz 2.0 and this apache after a long research. Then i took test drives for each bike in the dealerships. However, i settled for this apache. Let me get this straight, the apache rtr 160 is a beast of a machine. If you want raw acceleration out of the box, this one was the first choice in that time (january 2015). As it runs shorter gear ratios along with a rev happy engine, compared to other bikes in this segment, a little twist of throttle is enough to overtake other vehicles with ease. Low end and mid range pull is superb. Due to shorter gear ratios, it sacrifices some of its top end grunt. The torque figures are also very good. With great power comes great petrol bill, but in this case it doesn't dig a hole in our pocket. The average mileage of this bike is 40kmpl with moderate use. In highway rides you can expect anything near 42-43 kmpl. And if you ride like hooligan stunt rider, it will return around 36-38kmpl.The maintenance cost is moderate too. After 5 free services, it costs around 300-400 rs per service (it can vary from place to place)I personally modified the electricals converting this to a full dc setup to run hid lights as the light output from the stock headlight is a little bit on the lower side. One small recommendation from me is to use some branded engine oil rather than using the tvs engine oils. I use motul 7100 10w40 from the second servicing and it works great. But honestly, this particular bike needed some refinements as there are vibrations kicking in after 7k rpms. The new bikes like 2nd gen pulsar ns160 pulls harder than this while the honda hornet and yamaha fz are smoother than this. Tvs fixed all this issues by launching the 4v version of this, but unfortunately it lost some of its raw characters with the upgrade. It was a great beginner bike in that time and still now the 4v does the same. I'm very happy that i choose this one. .

    Style

the rtr 160 has been a decent looking motorcycle with proportionate design and styling. The latest iteration of the rtr had its tryst with aggressive styling but the results are disputed.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox

the 160cc 15.4Bhp mill has been doing its duty on the rtr pretty well. The oversquare engine is free revving and revs cleanly upto the red-line of 9000rpm for the stock engine. Though there is no rev limiter, you can feel the power dip beyong 9500rpm. The power delivery is progressive through the rev range and the racing throttle response system helps the bike performm well in the mid range. One thing that dents the rtr experience are the engine vibrations that creep in near 5000rpm and are felt right up to the red line.

    Ride quality & handling

the racing inspired two-piece handle bars are well positioned giving the rider an aggressive posture. The ergonomics of the motorcyle are track oriented and the power delivery of the bike does justice to it. The motorcycle design is bang on target giving the bike a proper balance and stability on straight line as well as around corners. In city traffic, in spite of the two-piece handle bar, the bike is very easy to maneouvre and the good mid-range reponse makes it a delight to ride. The vibrations peak between 5000rpm to 6000rpm, which is sadly the normal riding rev range inindia and hence long rides on this bike make your palms go numb. The seat is soft and more comfortable in comparison wit its competitors. The brakes are pretty much enough for the bike but the tvs tyres do not inspire comfidence.

    Final words

the tvs rtr 160 is a small, puny and powerful bike which is a great package for on road as well as track riding. The engine is a gem in terms of power delivery and longevity. The fuel economy is good. If tvs can work around the nvh of teh engine, the motorcycle will be a true piece of art.

Dear biker friends, a honest review from a buyer of tvs apache 160 bike. I have had the bike for 5 yearsand i have following problems:1. Most important:the chasis of my bike has degraded and rusted to such an extent that i avoidriding it and whenever have to, i feel scared of bike breaking and me falling.

    2. The silencer tube from engine is rusted (very strange, only observed in tvs bikes). I doubt of it breaking during high revs.3. Forward left suspension is leaking oil and has been advised by service agent that the suspension tube is pitted and needs replacement.4. Forward disc brake arrangement was found to be jammed and had to be bored to change brake pads. After boring it makes noise and does not function properly.

If anyone interested to see photographs please feel free tomail me at umesh3798@yahoo.Com.

I do understand a bike 5 yrs old has problems but the first 2 problems are veryuncommon. Especially the chassis problem is unimaginable. Quote for changing chassis has been given to me as rs 18000, which is uneconomical at this stage. Rusted silencer completely destroys the look of the bike and i cannot determine how strong it is now. Forward disc brake got jammed even when serviced at their service stations regularly. It cost me around rs 1500 to get it bored and it isnot working properly now. Their customercare representative say its one off cases they cannot so anything about it as it is not under warranty. Who knows next could be yours. Please do think about it and thanks for reading this far. Hope u found this helpful.

I have purchased it on 26-sep-2014. The bike is really good but there are some features missing from it like auto side light off, side stand light. The mileage of bike is enough it is giving me 41 kmpl now but in starting it was giving 50. Service center in my area is really poor (kankria, ahmedabad). Speed of bike is good you will love it when it is on the top. I think front wheel of my bike is not proper because when i start riding it i can clearly feel the wheel is tortuous. The bike is not much comfortable as comparing to pulsar 150. It lightweight than pulsar 150. Because of its lightweight you will love to ride it but when truck, car or bus will pass near by you the bike will unstable. The spedometer is too much hard it is very disapointing i cant set anything in it. The company should take care of customers i am not satisfied with the bike.

This bike is completely made for speed and performance but still i am not happy with it i will suggest you to go with pulsar 150 instead of apache 160 rtr.
