  •  3A blunt honest review after 500 km's riding 6 days ago by Anil Jagtap

Buying: Buying experience was smooth and hassle free. Dealer helped a lot with follow-ups with company and delivered my bike much sooner than promised date. Here I will like to give 5/5 stars. Riding: I have took this bike for 400 km's ride before my first servicing. Taken care not to exceed 60 km/h and 4000 rpms to get a smooth run in of the engine. Suspension is not as smooth as most of the owners claim. It is at harder side and that is okay because it is an adventure bike. But you can feel bumps and potholes more than my previous bike which brand and model I will not reveal to keep away from bias. Otherwise riding is smooth, maneuvering is smooth. I do not feel weight of the bike while using it even in the city traffic except I am stand still. Seat is okay for long rides but I would like to change it to a bit harder one. Looks and performance: Looks are okay. Not exceptional but average. The bike is bit taller than most of other regular bikes that's the prominent difference. Performance is okay. For me it was not extra ordinary like what I have seen in some YouTube channels. Engine gets stressed and bike made weird noise in 3rd gear at 50-60 km/h speed in my said trip. Later I came to know that chain of my bike was not properly tight as showroom mechanic told me. Why it was not configured? I had no answers. In steep ghat sections you feel shortage of power. And yes, the clutch is hard. I mean real hard that my palm began to ache after 100 km's of ride. Gear shifting is hard. I can hear a thud when I put bike in first gear from neutral. Higher gears are somewhat smoother. Much talked tripper navigation is useless when phone loses network. I had expected it shall store my route and guide me even when there is no network. So no point having separate console meter for same thing which a simple phone mount can do. A USB charging port would have been more useful than tripper navigation. Secondly, I yet to find a soul who can tell me the compass meter was life saver for them. The last point is, bike do not want to start after each refuel. I have to try a few times and that scares me as it do not have a kick start option. Servicing and maintenance: After first service the bike was still making weird noises so i had to take it to service center again. After my complaint they came to know about the issue. Then what did they checked about my complaints while giving it for first servicing? the noise was because of harden rear brake pads which they replaced in warranty. How? I mean how they got hardened? I had no answers again. Crash guard in my bike is yet to arrive and not fitted yet. Due to which when I dropped my bike (a soft drop at stationary position in my parking), the clutch leaver got bent. Now I have replace it at my cost. I have ordered knuckle guards while taking delivery of bike on 19th march and yet I am waiting for them on 4th April. Pros and cons in my opinion: Pros : a budget entry level adventure bike* rigid design. One can feel the sturdiness of bike* only internationally reputed Indian adventure bike, I feel somehow this bike will not ditch me on road* smooth buying experience. Cons : service centers need to improve no usb port to charge devices.

Its a worthy bike, for its price we will get good performance and comfort to ride, I got good feeling ride this bike for long drive for tours it can travel up to 450 km per day the best bike to go for solo trip or trip with the friends, its look like sports bike, and its head light is superb and side look is crazy. Its doesn't take much maintenance and for servicing for 4 - 6 months once we should take it for servicing and maintenance.

The riding experience was the best of all the bikes i ever rode. Ever wanted a power just twist the throttle and will be in 80s within no time and the ride quality is the best a bike could offer i could do 100 to 120 kms of peak traffic and couldn't feel a thing that's how much great the ergonomics are coming to the looks its the best looking bike in the segment at this price range it makes you stand out wherever you go and trust it can take you places where normal bikes cant even dream about getting there the servicing and maintenance were good the service center network was great and would have done the servicing in a day or two Pros: Punchy engine, Great brakes, Great economics, Great at off roading. Cons: No liquid cooling, Low performance for a 400cc engine, No kick, starter.

Hey,I am writing this review after driving 1000 km on it. I thought so much before buying because this is never a instant hit bike but i am always crushed about this to own. Yes, finally i made up my mind and ready to risk 2l and i did it. Now my beast took away the risk for life on road. A very well balanced motor cycle to ride and you will just love it. However point to note that, do a test ride and take if you are not more than 5.8 height.I am sure this review will help you to clear some clouds and get over from the situation that i had faced 2 months ago.Eye turner Balanced Performance Pride while riding it Confident, Joy-able.

if you know what adv bikes are, you love riding long distances over expected and unexpected terrains, then wait for the abs version to be released, and buy it. However, if you're looking for a royal enfield thumper, something loud enough to scare the carbon out of the dominar, then don't buy it.Long story:I unfortunately own the bs3 (bharat stage 3) version of the bike. All i can say about my experience of the bike in the most polite way i can, is that, the bs3 version feels like a crowd sourced r&d, “beta testing” a product by paying full price for it, listening to the feedback (complaints), getting faulty parts replaced regularly for them to analyse, and finally, releasing the actual version, now with a bs4 badge, which seems to have most of, but not all, problems ironed out. That being said, i would, however, still recommend this bike, because it is genuinely an adventure tourer (adv bike) at its core. The main characteristics of an adv bike are:-a bigger 21 inch front wheel-footpegs and handlebars in an upright position to ride standing up-large fuel tank, or additional fuel mountain points-long travel suspension, front and rear-spoked wheels that can take a beating off-road-under engine skid plate / bashplate-knobby tires (yes we can change those in the aftermarket, but still)-low end torque for navigating tricky trails-longer wheelbase for highway stability The himalayan checks all those points. And for a price point of inr 180,000, its fantastic. Similar engine capacity bikes such as the bmw 310 gs, kawasaki versys 300, and the rumoured ktm 390 adventure are all modified "adv versions" of road bikes. Most of them don't come with spoked wheels as standard, and non have the 21inch front wheel, one of the most important character of an adv bike. These bikes are more of a compromise. Now, going back to himalayan, and specifically royal enfield motorcycles. If you are looking for a motorcycle to do daily city commutes on, the himalayan is okay, but not great. Getting stuck in traffic with this long wheelbase big beast of burden can be tiresome, especially people who are used to zipping in between cars and busses. Plus the air-cooled engine doesn't like start stop traffic very much/If you are looking for an affordable bike for long distance travel, especially in india, i honestly couldn't recommend the himalayan more. The upright seating position is friendly on your body. And if you ever encounter a large pothole or an unpaved road in your journey, you honestly don't need to slow down on this bike. The large wheels, and long travel suspension takes care of it. Most importantly, unlike the traditional royal enfield engines with pushrod engines that vibrate your teeth out, the himalayan's ls410 engine is an sohc with a counter-balancer. Meaning, cruising on straight highways, the mountainous twisties, rough backroads, and offload trails, the himalayan is a pleasure. As i mentioned earlier, its comfortable for the city too, just not ideal for our rush hour traffic in hot summers. As a true adv enthusiast, if you're looking to thrash your bike on offroad trails, you would be comfortable doing that on the himalayan too, as it really teaches you the right technique for handling a large bike with the correct adv posture and proportions. And when you do fall, and trust me, you will fall when going offroad, the replacement cost for parts won't break you further. The engine is relatively underpowered, so you won't get into too much trouble anyway :) .My suggestion would be to wait until the abs version is released (or buy the abs version if its already released at the time of reading this). Trying to stop the himalayan in an emergency is a great skill to have, however, you shouldn't end up getting seriously hurt either. I think abs should be mandatory. Let's hope that its dual channel, and is switchable for skidding the rear wheel through tight corners in the dirt. Finally i should add that i bought the himalayan as a adv bike and not as a royal enfield. I am personally not a fan of royal enfield. I love classic bikes too, but i also like technology and engineering. Royal enfield could have produced modern and more efficient engines, safer and better built bikes, yet sticking to their classic look, perhaps similar to triumph bonneville range of bikes. If you are considering a royal enfield for the thump and were taking the himalayan into the consideration too, then i'm sorry, the himalayan won't work for you. Always remember to gear up, especially going offroad.
