In a bid to expand its big bike portfolio in India, Yamaha recently showcased the 700cc twins to select dealers. The unofficial bookings for the MT-07 and the YZF R7 have already commenced at a few dealerships with the token amount set between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. Further, their launch is scheduled for the second half of this year.
Yamaha has powered both bikes by a 689cc twin-cylinder engine linked to a six-speed gearbox. It dishes out 73bhp at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm. The two bikes differ in design since the MT-07 is a proper streetfighter with an upright rider triangle, while the R7 is a faired motorcycle. However, they share their hardware for the most part.
The MT-07 and the R7 get a pair of 298mm front discs and a single 245mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. While the R7 rides on USD front forks, the MT gets regular telescopic front forks. That said, the monoshock, and the 17-inch wheels wrapped in a 120/70 front and a 180/55 rear tyre are shared among the Yamaha 700 siblings.
Once launched, the R7 will rival the Kawasaki Ninja 650, the Honda CBR 650R, and the like. Meanwhile, the MT-07 will compete against the Kawasaki Z650 and the Triumph Trident 660.
