KTM-Bajaj jointly working on electric bikes, scooters

- KTM-Bajaj working on new e-bike platform

- Each brand will have its own product

- Will be manufactured in India from 2022

Bajaj and its Austrian partner KTM are working together on developing new electric vehicles. Both the companies are jointly working on a series of new e-bike platform that will be used to make EVs for both the brands.

According to one of the top honchos, the prototypes are being readied, but it’s still not confirmed which vehicle will be introduced first. This platform will support a 48-volt powertrain, and will be able to underpin a wide range of EVs ranging between 3kW and 19kW. Both the brands will develop its own e-bikes from this platform, and in fact, it will be manufactured in India. The production is expected to begin at one of Bajaj’s factory in 2022.

Bajaj is likely to launch its first electric vehicle under the Urbanite brand this financial year. In fact, this e-scooter has been spotted on test a few times in the last two weeks. It’s still not sure if this upcoming product was developed in-house or help was taken from KTM. According to these leaked images, there’s a petrol scooter ready as well, which could be launched next year.
