Piaggio has commenced the production of its electric scooter, the Vespa Elettrica, at its manufacturing facility in Pontedera, Italy. It will be available for booking from November in the European markets, through its official website. The deliveries are expected to commence in January 2019.
The electric scooter was first unveiled in its production version at the 2017 EICMA. The scooter carries the traditional Vespa styling boasting of retro-classic design. The E-Vespa is more compact and light as compared to the combustion motor versions and it will be available in two colour options which include silver with yellow lining and silver with green lining. The Vespa Elettrica comes equipped with a 4.3-inch TFT display for controlling the Vespa Multimedia Platform which consists of electronics safety features.
Powering the Piaggio electric scooter is a 4.2kWh motor that puts out 4kW (5.4bhp) of power and 14.9Nm of torque. It comes with two modes; Eco mode which limits the power delivery to 2kW and Power mode which harnesses its full potential. The Vespa Elettrica takes four hours to fully charge and delivers a range of around 100kms.
The Piaggio Vespa Elettrica will be showcased at the 2018 EICMA. It will be introduced in the Asian market in 2019 and it might come to India by late 2019 or early 2020.
