About S 1000 XR

The BMW S1000 XR is a litre-class touring motorcycle. Competing with the Ducati Multistrada, Aprilia Caponord and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, the S1000 XR is targeted at an adventure touring audience.

The BMW S1000 XR is a litre-class touring motorcycle. Competing with the Ducati Multistrada, Aprilia Caponord and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, the S1000 XR is targeted at an adventure touring audience.

Despite what the name hints, the S1000 XR doesn’t share a lot with the S1000 RR superbike. It has been built around a completely new frame with a new swing-arm and geometry. It does borrow the S1000 RR’s 999cc inline-four engine, though in a different state of tune. The engine now delivers 160bhp and 112Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox.

To lend the motorcycle an adventure-bike look and an upright riding position, the S1000 XR gets longer suspension travel at both ends, high set handlebars and repositioned foot pegs. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. The electronics package includes dynamic traction control, cornering ABS and switchable riding modes, to suit different kinds of weather and riding conditions. It also gets a massive 20-litre fuel tank.

The S1000 XR is available in two paint schemes - red and white and in two variants – standard and Pro. It also gets a host of optional extras to improve its touring capabilities.
