BMW has updated its litre-class sports tourer, the S 1000 XR to comply with the BS6 emission norms. The latest iteration of the adventure sports tourer is available in a single variant, S 1000 XR Pro, in the Indian market. The motorcycle is available at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 20,90,000 (ex-showroom India).
The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR is powered by a Euro5/BS6-compliant 999cc inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 16-valve, DOHC motor. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the engine produces 162bhp at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 9,250rpm. The motorcycle accelerates from 0-100kmph in 3.3 seconds, and it boasts of a top speed of over 200kmph.
The S 1000 XR features four riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The ‘Dynamic Pro’ mode is fully configurable and the rider can adjust the throttle response, engine brake, ABS, traction control and wheelie control settings. The safety net also includes cornering ABS.
Apart from an updated motor, the 2020 model also packs several styling upgrades over its predecessor. The front fascia drops the asymmetrical design for a pair of sleek headlights. The latest iteration of the motorcycle also features full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch colour display. The TFT screen works with the BMW Motorrad Connected App.
Touring focused design brings a semi-fairing and an adjustable windscreen to the motorcycle. The 2020 S 1000 XR is available in two colour options – Racing Red and Ice Grey.
The suspension duties are handled by upside-down forks at the front and a mono-shock at the back. It packs the company’s latest-generation BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) as standard. Anchoring power comes from twin discs at the front and a single rotor at the back. Other features include cast-aluminium wheels, adjustable clutch and brake levers, keyless start, quickshifter, heated grips and cruise control system.
The S 1000 XR comes with a standard warranty of ‘three years, unlimited kilometres’, with an option to extend the warranty to the fourth and fifth year. The motorcycle rivals the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 1260 and the Kawasaki Versys 1000.
