About Speed Triple 1200 RS

Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is a sports bike available at a starting price of Rs. 16,96,903 in India. It is available in only 1 variant and 2 colours. The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is powered by 1160cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 177.5 bhp and a torque of 125 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS comes up with anti-locking braking system.

Triumph Motorcycles’ flagship roadster, the Speed Triple 1200 RS has been launched in the Indian market to rival the likes of BMW S1000R and the Ducati Monster 1200. The latest iteration of the motorcycle features an aggressive look than its predecessor. The front fascia looks similar to the new Street Triple RS, and the Speed Triple 1200 RS gets a twin-pod headlight setup with eye-brow style DRLs. The new model also benefits from full-LED lighting. Styling changes also include a sleeker design for the fuel tank and the tail section.

The 2021 model also gets a revised exhaust setup. The under-seat exhaust outlets from the discontinued model have been replaced by a single-sided unit. Triumph Motorcycles claims that the new model is 10kg lighter than the discontinued version. The motorcycle is available in two colour options – Sapphire Black and Matte Silver Ice.

The latest iteration, as the name suggests, gets a bigger engine than its predecessor. The new Speed Triple 1200 RS uses a 1,160cc, inline three-cylinder engine as against a 1,050cc motor on the old model. The new engine makes 178bhp, which is 30bhp more than the previous model. The maximum torque is rated at is 125Nm. The six-speed gearbox benefits from a slip and assist clutch function along with a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.

The electronic rider aids include cornering ABS, switchable cornering traction control, five riding modes (Rain, Road, Sport, Track, and a Rider Configurable), Cruise control, and wheelie control. Other modern features on the Speed Triple 1200 RS include a Bluetooth-enabled TFT screen, GoPro connectivity, and a full keyless system.

The premium hardware on the new Speed Triple 1200 RS include a new lightweight chassis, fully-adjustable Ohlins 43mm NIX30 upside-down front forks, an Ohlins TTX36 rear mono-shock, and top-spec Brembo Stylema callipers for the front. The alloy wheels are shod in Metzeler Ractec RR tyres.

Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • Loaded with electronics
    • Excellent on a race track
  • Could be Better

    • Priced quite high

    • Expensive to maintain

BikeWale's Take

The Speed Triple 1200 RS is Triumph’s most expensive roadster motorcycle. It is loaded with high-end performance along with great equipment and features. This RS model is known for its excellent handling capabilities and also easy city riding abilities. But it’s priced quite high and like other Triumph motorcycles, is a bit expensive to maintain.
