The M 1000 R is powered by a 999cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine that makes 210bhp at 13,750rpm and 113Nm at 11,000rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and has a quickshifter. The bike weighs 199kg only and BMW claims the M 1000 R can hit a top speed of 280kmph. The engine is also quite technologically advanced, featuring BMW’s ShiftCam technology and titanium valves.
BMW has gone to great lengths to give the bike an aggressive personality. This is evident in the shape of the aero winglets, fuel tank, and the minimal rear. It also looks striking in the two colours that it is available in - white and black with the signature BMW M division colours. Moreover, the attention to detail is exquisite.
The bike employs a perimeter frame and has a USD fork and monoshock. Being a top-level BMW street naked, it gets full adjustment at both ends. The bike rides on 17-inch carbon wheels, wrapped with sticky tyres to lay down all that power effectively. Braking duties, meanwhile, are handled by twin discs at the front and a single disc at the rear.
As is expected of such a bike, the equipment levels are top-notch. You’ve got multi-level traction control, ride modes, keyless ignition, and a lot more.
The BMW M 1000 R is available in one variant only. It competes with the Ducati Streetfighter V4S and the Kawasaki Z H2 and Z H2 SE.
