BMW G 310 R Summary

BMW Motorrad has updated its India portfolio with the launch of the 2023 G 310 R. The entry-level roadster from BMW Motorrad gets styling updates in the form of new colours. The design, features, and specifications, on the other hand, remain unchanged. The 2023 model is available in three new colours – Polar White with Racing Blue, Racing Red, and Cosmic Black 2. The new paint themes are complemented by bold graphics.

The styling cues retain elements such as a single-pod headlight with integrated LED DRL, body-coloured front fender, muscular fuel tank with shrouds, engine cowl, a single-piece step-up seat, five-spoke alloy wheels, and a side-slung exhaust with the dual-tone finish. The feature list, similar to its predecessor, includes full-LED lighting, adjustable clutch and brake levers, a fully-digital instrument cluster, and dual-channel ABS.

The 2023 model continues to use the BS6-compliant 313cc, single-cylinder engine. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the motor produces 33.5bhp and 28Nm of peak torque. The hardware comprises 17-inch alloy wheels, upside-down front forks, preload-adjustable rear monoshock, and single discs at both ends.

The BMW G 310 R rivals the likes of the KTM 390 Duke and the Honda CB300R in the Indian market.

BMW G 310 R Review

  • Good Things

    • Excellent fit and finish
    • Great city riding position
    • The brakes are really good
  • Could be Better

    • Engine vibrations at higher revs
    • Expensive to maintain
    • Limited service reach

BikeWale's Take

The G 310 R has almost all the qualities of being a BMW motorcycle. It has good quality components with a fit and finish to match, good braking setup and a comfortable riding position. The new bike has been finally priced really well, but the after sales continues to be on the expensive side.

This Bike is in nice conditions, its pickup and braking are so powerful I feel it when I cross the traffic areas. Control and safety are awesome, and the suspension absorbs bumps well. I enjoy the ride on this bike.

Premium Motorrad experience on a budget

      Rounak Das

Firstly, this is the prettiest bike in the sub 4 lakh range. Period. And the BMW badge and design language is the cherry on top.
I was sold right from the point I entered the dealership for the first time. Before I even get to the bike, I have to say no other brand compares to BMW in terms of service experience. Yes, you are paying a premium for that, but it is worth it to me. I believe you do not just buy a bike. You buy a brand.
As for the bike, I fell in love with the G310R on my very first test drive. There is a very nice grunt to it and the sound builds up in a thrilling way as you climb the RPMs. I have pushed it to the limits ever since buying and loved every second of my ride. After 5000 RPM, the engine note changes into a powerful roar which I cannot describe in words. The 310cc engine pulls really fast, power increases linearly and the lightness of the bike makes it a breeze to flick around. Handling is very easy especially in Bangalore's traffic. And yes, I have had bystanders stare at my bike and one of them asked me the price tag. That alone is worth the 3.7 lakh on-road price for me.
There are no free services. This is BMW after all. The first service is at 1 month/1000km, then 12 months/10000km after that. First service cost me around 6-7k. While that may seem high, keep in mind that you only pay once a year. Some other brands have each service cheaper but they have multiple services in a year, so ultimately you're not really paying more here.
The only gripe I have with the bike is the gearbox. It is honestly a little clunky at times. Sometimes the gear change doesn't register and you have to consciously push it with your toe harder. Also, the display while sufficient in terms of clarity and information looks dated compared to the coloured TFTs in other bikes in this range.
Apart from these shortcomings, I really have no complaints. It has been 9 months since I bought this bike and I am still excited to ride it everytime. If you are only looking for value for money, I would not recommend this bike. But if you value the brand value of a BMW, its unique design and a premium service experience (my first service was completed smoothly in half a day and the staff are very friendly), do not think twice about going for the G 310R. Happy riding!

      65000 KMs and counting

      Radhakrishna Mantri

I have been a long-time owner of this well-engineered bike, with more than 65K KMS on the odometer and 6 Years + on the RC book.
      Pros:
      1. Great suspension and ergonomics make this bike very comfortable for long rides as well.
      2. Good efficiency of about 25-30KMPL for this segment.
      3. Built is strong and so is the paint quality, fit, and finish.
      4. Agile and responsive to rider's input; anyone can get the hang of this bike in no time.
      Cons:
      1. Not the most powerful in the segment.
      2. Engine noise seems abnormal but BMW says that's how it is supposed to be. The exhaust note is not sporty at lower-mid RPM.
      3. Slightly expensive to maintain and needs a lot of care although service intervals are 10K. I have already replaced Rear Suspension ASSY once, the front fork oil seals twice, the clutch plates once, the Gear position sensor once, the Gear shaft with return spring once, the Clutch and Throttle cable thrice, the Left and right handle switchgear once, Front ABS sensor once, Battery 4 times, Timing chain once, rear hub rubber twice. Apart from these, consumables such as chains were replaced thrice, Tyres- replaced twice, and brake pads- were replaced thrice apart from routine 10K service at the dealership.
      4. Few service stations across the nation if you want to have long rides.
Overall the bike is good only if you can maintain it well like any machine and not just get it for the brand.

It's a wonderful bike cum machine once you ride it you will love the performance and stability as well. The comfort of the bike for a rider is amazing no bike in this segment can match the performance of this. The breaking and suspension of this bike are top-notch. The grip of this bike and ground clearance level are commendable.

As a growing man, this bike was the first I gave to myself, its design, efficiency, speed everything else made me adrenaline. The engine is a monster every biker needs minute detailing of the front design and the seat is a perfect blend for the new generation bikers, I wouldn't be more amazed at that.

As a growing man, this bike was the first I gave to myself, its design, efficiency, speed everything else made me adrenaline. The engine is a monster every biker needs minute detailing of the front design and the seat is a perfect blend for the new generation bikers, I wouldn't be more amazed at that.

Engine noise and suspension good and comfort and stylish service amount is like maintenance is very low I would recommend that BMW is the best bike for a very low budget and in premium bikes I am very happy to drive this bike as well I completed my 20000 km and I still love to drive this bike service is good n maintaining low Maintenance charges

      Waste of money

      Deepak

      - customer service is the utter worst. No proper response to your queries.
      - gears are very tight, very poor riding experience.
      - within a year of use battery is dead. And you don't have the alternative option of a kicker so, imagine the experience.
      - waste of money, drive more than 80km/hr in top gear but still the engine gives a 2t engine noise.
All these were complaints registered during my services but nothing is cleared. Please don't buy it.
