The Yamaha Ray has been a fairly successful scooter but was specifically targeted at female riders. To capture a greater share of the market, Yamaha launched the Ray-Z in May last year, which is nothing but the Ray with a masculine appeal.

Mechanically, the scooter remains the same but carries some restyled bits and louder graphics. The Ray-Z features a smoked-finish visor, a new instrument panel, a carbon fibre patterned seat and aluminum rear grab-bars. The front features V-shaped headlights while the rear houses a stylish tail lamp assembly with clear-lens indicators. Despite the lean and sculpted body, the underseat storage, with a 15.5-litre capacity, is spacious enough for a full face helmet and the floor board has enough place for your legs.

The Ray-Z continues to be powered by the standard 113cc engine which produces 7bhp and 8Nm of torque via a CVT gearbox. Yamaha claims that the roller-rockers and carburetor have been updated while the suspension has been tweaked. The engine is refined and suitable for city commute. The Ray-Z retains drum brakes on both wheels.

Priced at Rs 51,615 (ex-showroom Delhi) the Ray-Z is offered in four colour schemes, Regal Red, Astral Blue, Moon Walk White and True Blue. It joins the crowd of other scooters like the Honda Activa-i, Honda Dio, TVS Wego, Hero Maestro and TVS Jupiter.

This motor has a great jump start. Real racing experience. I own a yamaha ray which looks fantastic from every side. It has a real race motor look. Performance is impressive. Gives the exact mileage as stated but it may differ from your usage. Servicing is also cost effective. They give you like some services free but to be true you should service your vehicle once in 2 months cause then only your motor will be smooth in driving. It is light weight and because of its arrow shaped body it gains the speed of 60 in 5 secs(p.S:- not bragging) no cons i should say cause as a teenager i think that it is pretty good!

I purchased this bike 1.5 Years back and had a nice experience with my yamaha ray,

-looks are just amazing and attractive

yamaha gave ray a catchy look with sporty kind of exterior

-not so good for long rides but good for daily use and for short distance travel,

-i am getting 30-35kmpl of mileage but regular servicing is must.

-As compared to other bikes ray's height is short and this is the reason it looks like yamaha designed this for girls.

    Pros

    1. Amazing looks.

    2. Enough boot space for a helmet.

    3. Good handling.

    4. Nice placement of headlight and indicators.

    Cons

    1. No accessories you have to purchase them by yourself

    2. Mileage should be more around 40 kmpl

    3. Height of scooter is low as compared to others.
