Suzuki recalls 23,073 GSX-R 750 and GSX-R 1000 to replace chain adjuster

Suzuki has recalled 23,073 units of the GSX-R750 and the GSX-R1000 motorcycles in the US for a potential transmission issue. The GSX-R 1000 bikes manufactured between 2009 and 2014 and GSX-R 750 bikes made between 2011 and 2014 have been affected.

Suzuki has announced that if a gear is missed while upshifting, the strain applied to the drive chain after the next shift may cause the rear axle to move, damaging the left-side drive chain adjuster. If the drive chain adjuster gets damaged, the drive chain may come off, disconnecting power to the rear wheel and increasing the risk of a crash.

The company is in the process of notifying the owners and the dealers will replace the left-side chain adjuster with an improved part, free of cost. It has also asked the bike owners not to use their motorcycles till this issue is fixed. Suzuki India sells the GSX-R 1000 in India, however, no recall has been issued here as the bikes are imported from Japan directly and not from the US.
