The Ducati DesertX Discovery is the touring-ready version of the DesertX. As the name suggests, it is built for long distance rides and exploring off the beaten path. To facilitate this, the motorcycle gets a bunch of features, which the standard DesertX does not get.
Firstly, there is comprehensive crash protection. A bull bar protects the side panels, while a massive aluminium bash plate covers the underside of the L-twin engine. Additionally, a radiator guard is included to prevent damage from stone chips.
Other useful features include heated grips, centre stand, turn-by-turn navigation, and aluminium hard cases as standard.
Visually, it looks identical to the standard DesertX, except for the taller touring windscreen and the dedicated Ducati Red/Thrilling Black paint scheme.
The bike is powered by a 937cc, L-twin engine that makes 108bhp at 9,250rpm and 92Nm at 6,500rpm. This engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox.
Under the bodywork, there is a tubular steel trellis frame that is suspended by a 46mm USD fork and monoshock, both of which are adjustable. The bike rides on a 21-inch front/18-inch rear wheel. Braking is taken care of by twin 320mm discs at the front and a 260mm disc at the rear.
As for the electronics, there are multiple ride modes, traction control levels, ABS, and more.
In terms of competition, the bike goes up against the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
