About Tiger 1200

Triumph Tiger 1200 is a commuter bike available in 1 variant in india. Its price starts from ₹17,00,080 (ex-showroom). Triumph Tiger 1200 generates 139 bhp of power and 122 nm of torque from its 1215cc engine. Double cylinder engine of Tiger 1200 has a 6 speed manual gearbox. With both rear and front disk brakes, Triumph Tiger 1200 also has an anti-locking braking system. This 260 kg bike is available in 3 colours.

The Triumph Tiger 1200 is the larger of the two Tigers, and was previously known as the ‘Explorer’. The reason for the change of name is the sheer number of changes between the current and previous models. Triumph claims that there are over 100 changes to the larger of the Tigers. Some of them are internal, like a lighter engine that generates only 2bhp more but has a flatter torque curve and a kerb weight that is 11kg less. Some are external, like the all-LED headlamps and the Arrow exhaust, which is now standard. The Tiger 1200 also benefits from the colour TFT screen for its instrumentation, and you can choose different layouts. There is a two-way quickshifter, semi-active suspension, cruise control, a hill-hold function, an electrically adjustable windscreen, cornering headlamps and an integrated braking systems among the features. The XC models also get an extra mode called ‘Off-Road Pro’ which turns off the ABS and traction control completely.

Only the XCx has made it to India, meaning it is an off-road focused motorcycle. The Tiger 1200 has been launched at Rs 17 lakh,  and many accessories to make off-road duty or touring easier are available. It will compete with other off-road focused adventure touring motorcycles like the BMW R1200 GS Adventure and Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro.

Triumph Tiger 1200 Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • The 1200cc engine has abundant power and torque
    • The electronics work seamlessly
    • Shaft drive means less maintenance
  • Could be Better

    • It’s top heavy makes riding off-road challenging
    • Misses out on electronic wind-screen adjustment
    • Priced quite high

BikeWale's Take

The Tiger 1200 is the most expensive and the biggest adventure bike in Triumph’s line-up. It’s known for its powerful 1200cc engine and its performance, and also the top-spec electronics that it is loaded with. However, due to its overall weight and top heaviness, it’s little difficult to ride it off-road, especially in tight trails.
