BMW R Nine T Scrambler Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • Has modern-classic appeal
    • Offers comfortable riding position
    • Loaded with modern features
  • Could be Better

    • Is too pricey
    • Has limited service network

BikeWale's Take

The R Nine T Scrambler is BMW's version of what a neo-retro scrambler should be like. And while it does look the part, it has more retro charm than modern tech and thus lacks out on many features that its rivals offer. Furthermore, it could also do better with a wider service network - a deal-breaker for some.

About R Nine T Scrambler

The BMW R Nine T Scrambler is powered by 1170cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 107.28 bhp and a torque of 116 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, BMW R Nine T Scrambler comes up with anti-locking braking system. This R Nine T Scrambler bike weighs 223 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 17 liters.

The BMW RnineT Scrambler, like its name suggests, is built to look like a scrambler. It has a rather simplistic approach to its styling, keeping in tune with the heritage range. It gets large fuel tank and a split seat setup with the tail lamp fitted on the number plate holder. Moreover, the R nineT also sports a round headlamp and slightly high set, dual-exhausts that add character. And unlike most of the R nineT range, the Scrambler rides on alloy wheels.

It uses a 1,170cc, air and oil-cooled, boxer-twin engine with a shaft drive. The motor is tuned to produce 107.2bhp at 7,250rpm and 116Nm at 6,000rpm. BMW Motorrad claims the R nineT has a 0-100kmph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 kmph.

Apart from the full-LED lighting, the R nineT comes with two riding modes – Rain and Road as standard. The safety net includes Automatic Stability Control (ASC), ABS , Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), as well as a new suspension strut with travel-dependent damping (WAD).

To add character to the RnineT Scrambler, BMW is offering the bike in a choice of four colours. The ‘Kalamatta Metallic Matt’ brown paint with the ‘23’ lettering on the tank. You could also go for the Cosmic Blue/White colour with its dual-tone combination. There also is a red and black paint combo that adds a sporty character to the R nineT. The colour features a red frame as well. Lastly, the bike is also available in a simple Granite Grey paint scheme.
