About BMW R 1250 GS [2018-2019]

The GS series of adventure-touring motorcycles have been the highest sellers for BMW Motorrad for a very long time, and the 2019 year model comes with a major update to it.

First up is the increase in displacement of the engine, which now is 1254cc worth. It also has intelligent variable valve timing, which adjusts both lift and duration as needed. Peak power and torque figures are now 136bhp and 143Nm. Hill start control, traction control and two riding modes – road and rain – are standard. A 6.5-inch TFT colour screen displays all the information you need, and all-LED lighting rounds off the package.

Since the R 1250 GS is a road-biased variant, it will compete with the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 1260 and Triumph Tiger 1200’s road-biased variants. Prices begin at Rs 16.9 lakhs onward, ex-showroom.

BMW R 1250 GS [2018-2019] Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • Incredibly easy to handle
    • Is loaded with electronic aids
    • The 1254cc engine is refined
  • Could be Better

    • The TFT display is tricky to use
    • Pricing is on the higher side

BikeWale's Take

The BMW R1250 is the ultimate adventure-touring motorcycle money could buy. It gets excellent touring abilities and the low centre of gravity ensures great off-road handlling too. The bike's 1254cc, boxer-twin engine features BMW's ShiftCam technology which has made the unit refined and potent. However, thanks to all the features and tech, the price is on the higher side and not very accessible.

The ride quality is amazingly cool, while riding the bike at low speeds too, the balance of the bike remains awesome. It does not complain if you are driving in the first two gears, this is something very common on mumbai roads while commuting to the office everyday. Ha
