About Sportster S

Harley-Davidson Sportster S is a cruiser bike available at a starting price of Rs. 16,53,993 in India. It is available in only 1 variant and 3 colours. The Harley-Davidson Sportster S is powered by 1252cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 120.69 bhp and a torque of 125 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Harley-Davidson Sportster S comes up with anti-locking braking system. This Sportster S bike weighs 228 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 11.8 liters.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster S is part of the American manufacturer’s Sportster range of motorcycles. In terms of design, it gets a distinctive-looking LED headlight, massive tyres, a short front fender, an 11.7-litre fuel tank, high-mounted twin exhausts, and a slim seat. The tail section, exhaust, and saddle draw inspiration from the Harley-Davidson XR750 flat tracker.

But its biggest highlight is the 1250cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine that it shares with the highly-acclaimed Pan America 1250 adventure-touring motorcycle. The motor has been tuned to suit the Sportster S’s character and churns out 119.3bbhp and 127.4Nm. The motor, which is a stressed member of the chassis, features a Chocolate Satin finish on the magnesium engine covers.

The hardware on the Sportster S consists of a Showa 43mm inverted front forks and a Showa mono-shock at the rear. The front setup is fully adjustable while the rear suspension features a hydraulic preload adjustment. The five-spoke alloy wheels are shod with Dunlop/Harley-Davidson Series GT503 tyres. The braking setup uses a 320mm disc with Brembo radial monoblock four-piston calliper at the front and a 260mm disc with a two-piston Brembo calliper at the back.

On the feature front, the Sportster S receives five riding modes, lean-sensitive traction control, and cornering ABS. Then there is full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster. Harley is offering the motorcycle in a choice of three colours- Vivid Black, Midnight Crimson, and Stone Washed White Pearl.

Harley-Davidson Sportster S Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • New engine offers lots of torque
    • Loaded with electronics
    • Gets Bluetooth and navigations
  • Could be Better

    • Available only as a single-seater
    • Limited sales, service reach
    • Expensive to maintain

BikeWale's Take

The Sportster S is Harley-Davidson’s latest addition in India line-up. It offers a sporty riding position and with its fat tyres and side mounted exhaust, the bike looks extremely good on the road. It also gets lots of modern electronics. But the motorcycle is expensive to maintain and the brand also lacks the sales and service reach.
