About Tiger 800 XR

The Tiger 800 remains one of the default options for those seeking a middleweight adventure tourer. The new-for-2018 model has a reworked engine although with an identical power output, different headlamps, sharper-looking body panels, and a smaller, lighter exhaust.

The XR is a road-biased version of the Tiger 800. It gets Showa front forks with 140mm of travel. The rear shock is also a Showa unit and has adjustable preload. The wheels are 19-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels at the front and rear, since it is a road-biased motorcycle. You get Metzeler Tourance tyres on the XR. On the equipment list is switchable ABS, traction control system (TCS), adjustable seat height, adjustable brake and clutch levers and the 12V and USB power sockets.

The Triumph Tiger 800 XR competes with the BMW F750 GS, Ducati Multistrada 950 and Suzuki V-Strom 1000.

Triumph Tiger 800 XR Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • Likes to be ridden on the corners
    • 800cc motor is quite refined and potent
    • Decent amount of safety electronics
  • Could be Better

    • Windscreen is small
    • Front suspension isn’t adjustable
    • Limited service reach

BikeWale's Take

The Tiger 800 XR is a touring version of the XC variant. The bike is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheel at the front, and some decent amount of safety electronics like ABS and traction control system. Plus, with the option of having adjustable seat height, it is quite practical for the Indian roads. However, the windscreen could have been larger and made long distance touring more comfortable.
