Kawasaki’s 650R has been a popular choice in the mid-size sports bike arena ever since its arrival in 2006. Although it isn’t the best of track tool or a full-bore tourer, the 650R is a properly well-rounded machine with sporty yet comfortable ergonomics and forgiving all-weather performance.
Kawasaki India first introduced the 650R back in 2011. The bike garnered instant success thanks to its practical nature and sportscar-rivaling performance. A year later, the Japanese brand launched the revamped 650R featuring a sleeker design, better ergonomics and improved quality.
The revamped model retains the fuel-injected, 649cc parallel twin engine. Known for its linear torque delivery throughout the rev-range, this liquid-cooled four stroke unit puts out around 71bhp of power. Now, the power output figure may sound quite puny in comparison to some of the litre-class superbikes like the ZX-10R, yet the 650R boasts of some serious performance on the road.
With a zero to 100kmph sprint time of well under five seconds and a top speed of around 220kmph, the 650R is anything but slow.
On sale for around Rs 5.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune), the 650R makes for a practical big bike. Add Kawasaki’s strong sales and service back up and there is very little which can go wrong.
