The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 is placed a notch above the Pulsar 150 both in terms of pricing and features. With a ₹ 1.02 lakh (on-road Mumbai) price tag and a 160cc mill, it directly competes with the similarly priced Honda CB Hornet 160R, Yamaha FZ S 2.0 and the Suzuki Gixxer.
The NS160 uses a single-cylinder 160cc oil-cooled engine, which puts out 15.3bhp of power and 14.6Nm of torque. The Gixxer is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder which delivers 14.6bhp and 14Nm of torque. FZ-S comes with a 149cc mill that churns out 13.1bhp and 12.8Nm of torque and is the only bike in the lot which features a fuel-injection system. Meanwhile Honda’s CB Hornet uses a slightly higher capacity 163cc air-cooled engine that produces 15.7bhp at 8,500rpm and peak torque of 14.7Nm at 6,500rpm. All of these motorcycle’s engines are mated to a five-speed gearbox.
Stopping power for the Suzuki Gixxer comes with a 266mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc in higher variants. The CBS (combined braking system) version of the CB Hornet too uses discs at the front and rear, with a large 276mm disc for the front and 220mm for the rear. The Yamaha FZ-S 2.0 and the Pulsar NS160, on the other hand, use a disc-drum set up. The FZ-S gets 242mm disc at the front while the front disc on the NS160 is the smallest at 240mm.
The Hornet and NS160 weighs the heaviest among the lot at a kerb weight of 140kgs. The Suzuki hasa kerb weight of 135kg followed by the Yamaha FZ-S at 132kg. All the other bikes use larger tyre sizes as compared to the NS160 which uses an 80/100 front and a 110/80 rear tyre.
The Suzuki Gixxer comes with a price tag of Rs 98,661, the Yamaha FZ-S retails at a price of Rs 99,900, while the Honda CB Hornet 160R has a price tag of Rs 1.05 lakh (all prices on-road Mumbai).
