BMW Motorrad has expanded its touring portfolio in the Indian market with the 2022 R 1250 RT motorcycle. This road-biased luxury tourer packs several changes over its predecessor, the R 1200 RT. The latest iteration of the motorcycle benefits from a styling revision that is claimed to pack better aerodynamics than its predecessor.
Apart from styling, BMW Motorrad has also revised its feature list. The touring capabilities have been enhanced through a luggage rack, pannier cases, heated grips and seat, and an adjustable windscreen. The electronic rider aids include traction control, ABS, steering stabiliser, cruise control, hill hold control, and multiple riding modes. The feature list also includes full-LED lighting and a 10.25-inch colour-TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity.
The mechanical specifications include a BS6-compliant 1,254cc, boxer-twin, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine with BMW Shiftcam technology. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the motor churns out 132.2bhp at 7,750rpm and 143Nm of peak torque at 6,250rpm. The hardware on the motorcycle comprises cast aluminium wheels, Telelever front forks, a monoshock, twin discs at the front, and a single rotor at the back.
The BMW R 1250 RT does not have a direct threat in the Indian market although it competes in a similar price range as the Ducati Multistrada V4 and the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide.
