2020 BMW G 310 GS BS6: What we know so far

BMW Motorrad is working on the BS6-compliant version of its entry-level adventure motorcycle, the G 310 GS. A test mule of the motorcycle was recently spotted in India and we expect the two-wheeler brand to introduce the model later this year. While we await a launch announcement, here we tell you everything that we know about the 2020 BMW G 310 GS so far.

Design and Features

The BS6-iteration of the motorcycle will retain the design of its predecessor. Thus, the 2020 G 310 GS will continue to pack a semi-fairing design, a larger front wheel (19-inch), and a longer suspension travel. The latest model, however, will benefit from full-LED lighting. Unfortunately, the BS6-compliant version will miss out on the Bluetooth-enabled, colour TFT display – a feature that is available on its direct rival, the KTM 390 Adventure. Instead, it will continue to use an LCD screen.

Engine

The updated model will pack a BS6-compliant engine, although we do not expect to see a major change in the displacement, power and torque output numbers. Thus, expect the upcoming BMW G 310 GS BS6 to pack a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor. The BS4 version was tuned to deliver 33bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. The BS6 model should deliver similar numbers.

Hardware

The hardware specifications, similar to the old, BS4 version, will include upside-down telescopic front forks and a rear mono-shock. The suspension setup will feature a longer travel than the road-biased BMW G 310 R naked roadster. Braking duties will be performed by single discs on both wheels while the safety net will include a switchable, dual-channel ABS. The G 310 GS will continue to use a 19-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the back – both wrapped in Metzeler Tourance tyres.

Price

The BS4-compliant BMW G 310 GS was offered at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 3.49 lakh. With the added features and updated motor, the entry-level adventure motorcycle from the Bavarian brand is likely to command a premium over its predecessor. Expect the new model to arrive with a Rs 15,000-20,000 price premium over the BS4 motorcycle.
