2017 California Superbike School India Review: Level 3

The last thing you want to hear after two days of extensive riding and learning is that the final day will be the toughest yet. The mantra for the day is ‘if it isn’t hurting, it isn’t working. Now, I am no masochist, but I am still looking forward to it. Day 3 or Level 3 of the California Superbike School India after all, touches upon what most motorcyclists consider as the Holy Grail – the right body positioning.

2017 California Superbike School India Review: Level 1

I hate the California Superbike School. It took away the one thing I was immensely proud of from my motorcycling toolbox. Before I attended the school for the first time in 2012 I could get my kneedown (and I am usually not this boastful) on almost anything on two-wheels; a Hero Splendor NXG included. Okay, it’s not true. No, the knee-down bit is because nowadays it only happens when a camera comes out. Even then it is not as frequently as our photographer would like. You see I can be quite the poser at times.

Big Rock Motopark – The must-attend dirt riding school

But then crashing on a dirt track is not as punishing as on a race track, and the adrenaline rush pushes you to get up, dust yourself off and continue as if nothing had happened.

TVS One Make Championship 2016: Media Race

The last thing you want to hear when you are trying to psych yourself to race is that you have high blood pressure. And in the kind track doctor’s words, this might be a reflection of my age (40 is knocking on my door, after all), and the fact that exercise has never been on my agenda. If that’s not all, the track doctor also says I need to cut down on sweets. But, I love sweets. And I hate exercise. And I have no control over my age. This isn’t going well.

Ducati Multistrada 1200S – coast to coast ride on a 160bhp sofa

Long rides aren’t new to me. Not too long ago, I used to spend a considerable amount of time in the saddle. Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai has been the most frequented route, but things got little boring after a while because everything on those trips is now predictable. Lucky for me that Ducati threw an adventure my way, and beaches were a part of it. Love it when that happens.
