Jawa vs Royal Enfield Classic 350- Competition Check

Jawa has re-entered the Indian market and will take on its long-time rival, Royal Enfield yet again. We will surely compare the Jawa and Classic 350 in real world conditions too, but for now, we see how the new Jawa and Classic 350 fare against each other on paper.

Design

The Jawa and Classic 350 sport a retro design that are reminiscent of the brands motorcycles from the past. Now, the Royal Enfield does look a bit modern thanks to some of the blacked-out parts and frame, along with RE’s redesigned logo. On the other hand, the Jawa looks like an exact replica of the original bike. It sports oodles of chrome, the same badging, and similar horn placement along with a similar looking engine.

Engine

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is powered by a 346cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 19.8bhp and 28Nm of torque. It is mated to a five-speed gearbox and final chain drive.

Meanwhile, the Jawa is propelled by a BS-VI compliant, 293cc, single-cylinder engine with liquid cooling. This unit also produces a higher power output of 27bhp although with a torque figure similar to the Classic at 28Nm. It also benefits from an extra gear and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox and final chain drive.

Cycle parts

Now here is where the Jawa lacks out. The bike does get a 280mm disc at the front with a single-channel ABS but the rear uses a drum brake. The company is not offering a rear disc brake as of now.

The Royal Enfield also gets a 280mm disc up front and a rear drum brake. However it is offered with a rear disc brake and dual-channel ABS as option. Suspension duties on both bikes are taken care of by conventional telescopic front forks and twin-shocks at the rear.

Pricing

The Jawa is priced at Rs 1.64 lakhs while the standard variant of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 retails at Rs 1.39 lakhs. The bike’s Redditch and Gunmetal Grey version comes with a rear disc as standard and are priced at Rs 1.47 lakhs and Rs 1.48 lakh each. Royal Enfield offers a dual-channel ABS on the Gunmetal Grey version which retails at Rs 1.54 lakhs. (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
