Aprilia SR150 competition check

The SR150 doesn’t have much competition on the face of it, but there are a few premium scooters that you can consider before you commit to this Italian beauty. Here they are:

The Aprilia SR150 offers a few things that the others don’t offer – 14-inch wheel rims shod with high-grip tyres, a 220mm front disc brake, and a 155cc engine that generates 10bhp and 11Nm. It is also the only one here with an analogue component to its instrument cluster. Its styling is also very European, but impractical as well, with its small footboard, tiny pillion seat and the harsh ride isn’t to everyone’s liking. The Bluetooth connectivity is an option on the standard SR150, although it is packaged with the Race and Carbon. Price: 70,000-80,000

The Honda Grazia will be something everyone will consider. It has Honda’s trusted reliability and service backup, and the 125cc engine that is taken from the Activa 125 generates a little over 8bhp and 10Nm. It offers a ton of features, like a tachometer, a clock, an Eco Mode indicator, and is one of two products here with an LED headlamp. It also gets Honda’s Combi Brake System as standard. Price: Rs 61,000-66,000

The TVS Ntorq 125 is TVS’s answer for the premium scooter buyer. It derives from TVS’s racing heritage – it offers wide tyres, and an instrument cluster that displays oil temperature, a lap timer, a 0-60kph time, top speed, and offers Bluetooth connectivity as well. It balances sportiness and practicality – along with a decently large footboard and underseat storage, it also has a three-valve engine that offers it sprightly performance with its 9bhp and 10.5Nm from 125cc. Oh, and TVS has paid attention to the exhaust note, so it has that bassy edge to it, like all TVS machines do. Price: Rs 63,000

Finally, you have the option Suzuki Burgman Street 125, which isn’t out and out sporty but prefers to take the maxi-scooter route. Still, it is based on the Access 125, which means it weighs the least here and also has a 125cc engine with nearly 9bhp and 10Nm. It gets an all-digital cluster but it displays the least amount of information here. However, it has the most storage space, with two spaces on the front apron (one covered, one uncovered) along with the underseat storage. It is the other product here that offers an LED headlamp, and the unique footrests integrated into the front apron that position the rider as though he was riding a cruiser, with his legs kicked out in front of him. Price: Rs 70,000
