- 2019 BMW S 1000 RR starts at Rs 18.50 lakhs ex-showroom

- Gets major overhaul in terms of design, features and mechanicals

- Weighs 11 kgs lighter than the outgoing model

BMW Motorrad has launched the next-generation 2019 edition of the S 1000 RR in India. The flagship supersport has been priced at Rs 18.50 lakhs for the standard model. It has also been introduced in Pro and Pro M Sport versions which carry a price tag of Rs 20.95 lakhs and Rs 22.95 lakhs, respectively (all prices are ex-showroom). This is the successor to the current-generation model sold in the country. The motorcycle has undergone a major overhaul with updates to the design, features and mechanicals.

In terms of design, the motorcycle receives a revised styling which is sleeker and more compact in dimensions. The quirky looking asymmetrical headlamp unit has been replaced with sleek twin LED projector lamps. Present under the new fairing is a lighter all-new aluminium twin-spar chassis with a trellis subframe holding the tail section. Besides that, it sports a new instrument console in the form of a 6.5-inch TFT colour display with Bluetooth connectivity. As far as electronic gadgetry is concerned, it now gets six-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), cornering ABS, dynamic traction control, hill start assist, Shift Assist Pro and adjustable engine braking.

However, the biggest update is in the engine department, as it gets a newly developed 999cc inline-four engine that is now 4 kg lighter than its predecessor. With revised geometry of the intake and exhaust ports, the engine comes with BMW ShiftCam technology, which varies the valve timings and valve strokes on the intake side. In terms of power output, the new motor is capable of producing 204bhp at 13,500rpm and 113Nm at 11,000rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox. It also features a lighter exhaust system that is 1.3 kg lighter. Considering the engine, exhaust and chassis weight savings, the new S 1000 RR weighs 197 kg, which is a whopping 11 kg lighter than the previous generation model. Besides that, the motorcycle comes with four riding modes Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race as standard. Coming to the cycle parts, the S 1000 RR gets newly developed suspension featuring inverted forks with electronic damping and a new lighter monoshock for the rear.

BMW Motorrad has introduced the 2019 S 1000 RR as a completely built unit (CBU) model and, has commenced accepting bookings for the motorcycle. On the competition front, the motorcycle will rival against the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R1, Honda CBR1000RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR and the Suzuki-GSX-R1000 in India.
