Triumph’s new 2017 Street Triple revealed

The Triumph Street Triple offered motorcycle buyers a unique proposition among middleweight street bikes. It had a three-cylinder engine, weighed less and had the potential to surprise you with its prowess. Almost a decade after the first Street Triple, Triumph has revealed a new one, the Street Triple 765 which seems to further the virtues of the original motorcycle.

The new 765 engine has been derived from the 675 architecture and has been heavily worked upon to achieve more power from the additional displacement. It now pumps out 121 bhp of peak power at 11750 rpm and 77Nm of torque. The first two gears are reportedly shorter for better tractability and it gets a slipper clutch and a quickshifter.

The chassis of the Street Triple has always been good and has been optimised for the new model. The new Triple gets a host of electronics including ride-by-wire, five riding modes, switchable and programmable ABS and traction control. It also gets a brand new dash with a 5 inch TFT on the Street Triple RS to relay all the information. The display can run in different modes and the whole set of electronics can be controlled through a 5-way joystick on the left-side switchgear.

The Street Triple will be offered in three variants – the S, R and the new top-spec RS. The RS gets fully adjustable 41mm Showas in the front and Ohlins STX piggyback in the back. It also gets Brembo M50 4-piston radial callipers with 310mm dual discs in the front and a 220mm disc in the back. You can opt for a low ride height version of the Street Triple R. Another version with a sleeved 660cc mill with lower power output will also be offered.

The RS gets the Pirelli Supercorsa SP tyres as standard while the lower trims will probably have to make do with the Rosso Corsas. The Triumph Street Triple finally gets on par with the competition with the web of safety aids and electronics and a powerful engine. It is on its way to India and we hope none of its horses escape on the way to the subcontinent!
