2020 Triumph Street Triple spied testing

- 2020 Street Triple features more compact headlamps

- Will majorly remain unchanged mechanically

- Likely to be unveiled at the 2019 EICMA

Triumph’s portfolio is going through a major makeover with most of the products being updated to their next-gen models. After unveiling the Thruxton TFC and Rocket 3 TFC, the British bikemaker might soon unveil the 2020 edition of its middle-weight streetfighter, the Street Triple, which was recently spotted testing.

While the rear-mounted equipment signifies it is still under testing, the motorcycle looks production-ready with the finished bodywork. The spy pictures reveal that Triumph has given subtle tweaks to the styling of the bike to keep it fresh. The most noticeable update has been given to the front section. The signature bug-eye-shaped headlamps of the Street Triple have turned into mean-looking, sleeker and more compact units. Unlike the current-gen model, these headlamps also integrate LED DRLs. Moreover, the sharp arrow-shaped cowls below the fuel tank are replaced by smaller panels while the radiator guards are also new. From the sculpted fuel tank, exposed frame and sub-frame to the petite tail section, everything else has been retained as is.

Besides the cosmetic updates, the upcoming Street Triple is likely to receive alterations to its engine. While the powerplant seems to remain majorly unchanged, the larger catalytic converter linked with the exhaust signifies it will be compliant with the upcoming Euro 5 emission norms. The motorcycle is powered by a 765cc, liquid-cooled, inline-triple motor which is mated to a six-speed gearbox. This powerplant churns out 111bhp and 73Nm on the R and S variants while the RS produces 121bhp and 77Nm. Considering the conventional mirrors and Nissin brake calipers, the motorcycle in the spy pictures is either the S or R variant. However, the company will also launch the RS trim of the new generation model.

Triumph is likely to unveil the 2020 Street Triple at this year’s EICMA show in Milan. Besides the streetfighter, the British bikemaker is also expected to introduce the supersport Daytona 765 Moto2 and Tiger 900 ADV, at the same event.
