About Audace

The Moto Guzzi Audace is a meaner, sinister looking sibling of the California 1400. Based on the same V-twin platform, this mammoth of a motorcycle is the Italian marque’s rendition of a traditional American cruiser.

The Audace, which stands for ‘bold’ in Italian, adopts a minimalist approach. Unlike flashy American cruisers, the Audace eschews chrome and other flamboyant styling cues. The round headlamp, sculpted fuel tank, stubby exhaust, multi-spoke wheels and other simplistic styling cues are designed to give it an understated look. The Audace has been styled according to the company’s traditional transverse engine layout with cylinders jutting out from below the fuel tank.

However, the matte paint job and the contrasting silvers bits and bobs successfully give the motorcycle a strong street presence. It rides on cast aluminium multispoke wheels, which float on telescopic forks and gas-charged Sachs rear shock absorbers. The Audace gets a lower seat, drag handlebars and front mounted foot pegs which offer a more stretched-out riding position.

The Audace is powered by the same 1380cc 90 degrees V-twin engine which produces 95bhp and 120Nm of torque. The air-cooled unit gets ride by wire and is mated to a six-speed transmission through a shaft drive. Positioned between the California 1400 and Eldorado, the Audace rivals the Indian Chief Dark Horse and the Harley-Davidson V-Rod.

Moto Guzzi Audace Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • Excellent road presence
    • Exclusive due to its styling
    • V-Twin engine is loaded with torque
  • Could be Better

    • Quite expensive
    • Leg touches the engine
    • Not practical for city roads

BikeWale's Take

The Audace is not your regular cruiser. It is expensive, heavy and looks like the Batmobile. With a price tag of Rs 23.5 lakh (on-road Pune), the Audace is counted as one of the most expensive and exclusive cruisers in India and due to this, there’ll be very less on the Indian roads. So rest assured when you are out on your ride, traffic is bound to halt around you.
