About Springfield

The iconic brand – Indian Motorcycles has added another motorcycle in its line- up – the Springfield. Launched at Rs 36.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Springfield sits between the Chief Vintage and the Chieftain in India as well as in the global markets.

The Springfield is powered by the Thunder Stroke 111 V-Twin engine that produces 137Nm at 2600rpm. This motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel. The chassis has been built to suit the touring needs and along with that, the company's main focus was to make it a good handler. This bagger is equipped with a quick-release windshield that takes care of long distance rides. In fact, this windshield can be installed or removed in less than a minute without any tools.

Just like the other Indian motorcycles, the Springfield is loaded with gadgets such as remote locking hard bags and adjustable passenger floorboards, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic cruise control and dual driving lights. Antilock-braking system (ABS) comes as standard to take care of the safety needs.

The Indian Springfield can be booked at all the showrooms across the country. It is brought into the country via the completely-built-up (CBU) route, just like the rest of the bikes in its line-up.

Indian Springfield Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • V-Twin engine is known for its impressive torque
    • Equipped with remote-locking hard saddlebag
    • Extremely comfortable on the highways
  • Could be Better

    • Priced quite high
    • Poor city riding dynamics
    • Limited sales and service reach

BikeWale's Take

The Springfield is one of the large cruiser Indian sells in the country. This motorcycle has been developed for long distance touring and this is why the V-Twin thunderstroke engine has excellent torque spread. The seats are extremely comfortable and the presence of large windscreen makes sure the rider isn’t a victim of heavy crosswinds. But the brand lacks the reach in India. Plus, it doesn’t have much sales and service reach.
