If a recent report from Economic Times is to be believed, Honda Motors is lining up an aggressive new strategy to strengthen its lead in the Indian scooter segment. The company, reportedly, is setting up what will be the world's largest scooter plant in Gujarat as the scooter segment continues to show constant growth in the Indian automotive space. 

While the Hero Splendor continued to dominate the two-wheeler sales chart in the last fiscal year, the number two on the list startled us all. Honda Activa trumped the hugely popular Hero Passion to capture the second spot on the list. Though it wasn’t the pioneer of the segment, the Activa has been credited with resurrecting the dying scooter market. A slew of trendy and modern scooters joined the Activa in the onslaught in the past few years, getting the scooter segment hold a 25 per cent share of the total two-wheelers sold in the country. 

Honda has started accepting bookings for the third member of the Activa family, the new Activa 125, for a token of Rs 5,000. The announcement was made through the manufacturer’s website, where the scooter had been put up a while ago. The scooter was first unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and is expected to be launched sometime this month. Pricing of the bike hasn’t been disclosed by Honda as of yet, but speculations have suggested a price tag of Rs 56,000 for the scooter.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), today announced the beginning of an unique road safety initiative for kids during the National safety week (March, 4 to March, 10). The introductory activity was held at Ramjas International School, Pusa Road, New Delhi.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has reported 36.15 per cent growth in their December sales. The company sold 2,96,144 units in December as compared to 2,17,498 units in the corresponding month last year.

Mahindra’s upcoming 110cc scooter was spotted testing in Pune. The camouflaged vehicle looked production ready and when launched will go up against the Honda Activa.

Honda has commenced a new TV commercial for their compact scooter, the Activa i. The scooter was launched in June at Rs 44,200 and sits below the Activa. The new advertisement campaign is expected to boost the sales of this scooter.

Government of India is all set to get stricter emission norms in place for two-wheelers by 2015. The new norms have already been formulated and will be notified shortly to the manufacturers.
