Benelli TNT600i [2020] Summary

The Benelli TNT 600i is a middleweight streetfighter motorcycle which was launched along with four other Benelli models in March 2015. Pitted against the Kawasaki ER-6n, Hyosung GT 650N and the Ducati Scrambler, the TNT 600i is one of the first 600cc four-cylinder motorcycles in India.

The TNT 600i is built around a composite chassis made of steel trestle in the front and an aluminium section at the rear, which links the offset monoshock. The TNT 600i is powered by the same 600cc inline-four engine which is used in the TNT 600GT. This liquid-cooled engine is equipped with electronic fuel injection and delivers 82bhp and 52Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission.

The upside down Marzocchi front forks and an adjustable Sachs offset monoshock suspension setup for the TNT 600i has been borrowed from the bigger TNT motorcycles. Braking hardware for the 17-inch wheels is made up of twin 320mm floating discs at the front and a single 240mm disc in the rear.

Being an entry-level middleweight motorcycle, the TNT 600i doesn’t really get many electronic aids, though its competition isn’t any better off either. ABS is available as an optional extra. Its bold Italian styling and the lucrative price tag make the TNT 600i a very enticing package. The TNT 600i is available in three paint schemes - Rosso (red), Bianco (white) and Nero (black).

Benelli TNT600i [2020] Review

  • Good Things

    • Gets an attractive exhaust note
    • The most affordable in-line four cylinder bike
  • Could be Better

    • Gets a sluggish motor and heavy clutch
    • Quite a heavy bike
    • Gets outdated instrument cluster

BikeWale's Take

The Benelli TNT600i is a brawny-looking motorcycle with an attractive exhaust note. Nevertheless, it is heavy and not very easy to manouevre through city traffic. Furthermore, the TNT 600i could do with an upgrade to its features and braking setup.

Benelli TNT600i [2020] Expert Opinion

Benelli's middleweight streetbike, one of the products that has been spawned after its new ownership. It is the most economical way to approach the accepted superbike noise in India, aka 'firing'. This one's a major update because it now sports ABS, and as we found out, a remapped ECU.

What is it?

Benelli's middleweight streetbike, one of the products that has been spawned after its new ownership. It is the most economical way to approach the accepted superbike noise in India, aka 'firing'. This one's a major update because it now sports ABS, and as we found out, a remapped ECU.

How does it ride?

Like a streetbike should - it's got impeccable manners in the city, and out on the highway it will keep its good manners going until its top speed, which is around the 200 kph mark. The ergonomics aren't extreme, and they will be comfortable for all but the smallest-built customers. The four-cylinder engine means that at standstill there is a bit of heft, but it all is under control once you get rolling. Suspension duties are by USD forks up front and an offset monoshock at the rear. The motor makes a relatively tame 83 bhp but at a screaming 11,500 rpm, and max torque is developed at 10,500 rpm.

If you're looking for twist-and-go thrills, the TNT 600i is probably not the bike for you. It behaves more like a 300cc twin, in the sense that it is docile almost right through the rev range, with serious progress available only at the uppermost reaches of its rev range.

Anything else I should know?

ABS has just been installed on the TNT 600i, and is switchable via a button fitted onto the left mirror yoke. This isn't a very elegant solution, but it works. The motor is from an old Yamaha R6, which is why we believe it will be dead reliable - it also explains the strangeness of the power peak being beyond the redline. Benelli has also changed the fueling at low revs, and it is a lot smoother, especially during throttle on/off transitions. However, that also means that at speed, you don't get as much engine braking as you'd like out of the TNT.

We still don't like the lack of feeler bolts of the footpegs - sure, it is a streetbike, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't like to go peg-scraping on it. There's also a superfluous headlamp on/off switch - today even a Hero Splendor has an auto headlamp in anticipation of the of the rule in 2017 requiring it. It's also an incredibly silent motorcycle to the people around you, so if you want to draw attention to yourself, you're going to need aftermarket exhausts.

Why should I buy one?

It's the most economical way to get a new inline four in the Indian market. It is also the only streetbike with ABS in its segment, and it is the only 'big bike' around its price point that offers ABS. The ER-6n is a more fun motorcycle to ride, yes, but until it gets ABS, the TNT is the only real option as far as we're concerned, despite the Rs 37000 premium, ex-showroom, over the non-ABS version.

Where does it fit in?

It fits in somewhere between the Kawasaki ER-6n on one side and the Ducati Monster 821 on the other, but the price difference between the three motorcycles is so great, there isn't any real option. If you're a safety-first customer, the Kawasaki Versys 650 offers ABS and the Harley-Davidson Street 750 will soon offer it as well. However, for all practical purposes the Benelli TNT 600i stands in class of one.

Benelli 600i THE TRUTH AND MYTH

      Neethi Raj

People think owning a 600 cc segment is affordable but if you ask me, honestly I would say that this bike is not easy-maintained. The power, drift, exhaust and RPM give us the satisfaction of premium segment bikes. Although it's about speed, throttle, exhaust note and maintenance this bike is a full package of satisfaction if you don't ride in heavy traffic. Ain't for daily commute !!
Riding experience stands 10/10, unremarkable and unbeatable. Always run neck to neck to 100BHP and above. Never on track with this machine, so no track suggestions.
Coming to looks, we all know that a naked sport doesn't come with full eye catchy satisfaction. Deep inside we all know that something is missing on the body and around the headlight !! But if you look at this machine from the rear tyre POV, yummy that looks so good and thick!!
Come on !! servicing and maintenance is all about how you maintain and run it along. And yes, fill your pockets when going to a service station or Fuel station.
      Pros-
Sound and inline 4 of course. ABS works as intended and I turn it off whenever I don't need it. I found using too much ABS loses that bite needed in B2B traffic.
      Very comfortable suspension.
Powerful enough when needed and you still can drive it regularly as a daily commuter (If you get used to heat and traffic.) Found it comfortable for long rides.
      Cons-
High maintenance. Rs 9500 on average per servicing. Servicing intervals are at 6k KM or 6 months.
chain tensioner needs to be replaced now and then.
      Easily heated up.
Long waiting period for parts to arrive. It's common with every mid/high-end bike though.
Vibration issues in bikes after a decent distance ride- easily can be identified if you ride a 200 km round distance. This issue comes again and again. Can't be fixed once and for all.

      Asgarali

Very nice bike, it is fast, great pickup, has nice fuel efficiency about 20 to 22 km/lt very nice sound because of in line 4 cylinders, it heats up in city traffic in winter it is okay but in summer it is very uncomfortable to ride this bike in the city, it is also too heavy to ride in the city but I still like this bike as it the cheapest of 4 cyl bike in India.

      Monster of roar

I was not happy with the braking on the benelli tnt 600i. Though it may have big discs on the front, i felt that the brake lever had to be squeezed quite a lot for the brakes to respond. The rear brake was decent but the front brakes that matters the most, seemed as if they needed some bleeding.

      Sanjay

Good bike, noisy boy, affordable bike, new generation bs6 has gone down with both torque and bhp and and high with noisy boy weight. It will little hard to ride in crowdy area but in streets and highways It is like a demon, maintenance is little high, you can use ixil x55 or ixil x60 for more bassy sound.
