Harley-Davidson has launched the 1200 Custom for the Indian market at Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). We had predicted this earlier and you can read the story here.
The new 1200 Custom sits in the Sportster family, which also has the Iron 883 and the Forty Eight. However, it is cheaper than the Forty Eight which retails at Rs 9.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The bookings for this new motorcycle have already begun and it will be sold via completely-knocked down (CKD) route. The bike is being assembled at the company’s facility in Bawal in Haryana – the same place where it manufactures the Street 750.
The 1200 Custom is powered by a 1200cc air-cooled V-twin engine. This mill produces close to 96Nm of peak torque and is mated to a five-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. In terms of design, the 1200 Custom looks quite close to the discontinued SuperLow. But the overall aesthetics is more modern and feels good to look at. The instrument cluster too, looks pleasant with its round speedometer. It is also equipped with a gear indicator and tachometer, which can be activated by the trip switch.
With the launch of the 1200 Custom, the total products under the American manufacturer has gone up to 13, out of which eight are assembled in India. The company recently revealed the Low Rider S and we think that’s the next Indian launch for the company.
