Royal Enfield is set to make its official debut in flat tracking at the American Flat Track (AFT) starting from August 2020. It will also present the 650 FT Concept motorcycle that will compete in the Production Twins class on 28 and 29 August.
The FT Concept is built in collaboration with Harris Performance, which is owned by Royal Enfield’s parent company- Eicher Motors. The motorcycle is based on the Interceptor 650 and gets adjustments to enhance its performance and abilities on the flat track. Apart from the obvious flat track body-work, the FT Concept uses a specially-made brazed steel tube frame with an adjustable steering head angle that can be customized according to individual riders.
Furthermore, the 41mm forks have been paired with Ohlins internals while an Ohlins TTX shock does duty at the rear. Meanwhile, the 19-inch RSD Traction billet aluminum rims are wrapped with Dunlop DTR tyres. While there is no front brake, the rear uses a twin-pot caliper.
The motorcycle will be ridden by Johnny Lewis, an AFT racer and Royal Enfield Slide School Instructor at the AFT. Moreover, Lewis will also ride alongside the four female participants of the ‘Build Train Race’ program with their custom Interceptor 650 at the Dixie Speedway on 15 and 16 October.
