Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 vs KTM 250 Duke: Spec Comparison

Husqvarna unveiled the Svartpilen 250 in the country at the 2019 India Bike Week and is expected to be launched here in February 2020. The motorcycle is based on the KTM 250 Duke. But how different are the two motorcycles on paper? We find out in this spec comparison.

Styling 

The Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 borrows styling cues from the bigger Svarpilen 701 that is sold internationally. It sports a round full-LED headlamp, a distinctively-shaped fuel-tank and a single-piece seat that ends in a neatly-shaped grab rail. 

On the other hand, the KTM 250 Duke sports an aggressive streetfighter design. The motorcycle gets sharp tank extensions and a split-seat setup that sits on an angular tail section. At the front is an inverted triangle shaped headlamp with LED DRLs. 

Engine 

Both motorcycles are built on the same tubular trellis frame, although with a different sub-frame to match each bike’s character. Underneath this frame sits a 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that is shared by the Husqvarna Svarpilen 250 as well as the KTM 250 Duke. It produces 29.6bhp of power and 24Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. 

Cycle Parts 

The KTM 250 Duke rides on inverted forks up front sourced from WP and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking is done by a 300mm disc upfront and a 230mm disc at the rear along with a dual-channel ABS. And while Husqvarna hasn’t revealed exact specs yet, the Svarpilen 250 is likely to use the same equipment. The Husqvarna uses dual-sport tyres unlike the road-biased tyres on the Duke. It even gets differently styled alloy wheels that further set it apart. 

Pricing 

KTM has pegged the 250 Duke at Rs 1.97 lakhs. However, the Husqvarna Svartpilen will be positioned above the KTM and demand a premium over the latter. We expect it to be priced around Rs 2.2 lakhs to Rs 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
