KTM 790 Duke India Launch- What to expect

The KTM 790 Duke will be launched in India very soon. So before the bike goes on sale in the country, we tell you what to expect from the middleweight naked motorcycle from Austria.

Pricing

The price of the KTM 790 Duke has been a hot topic for a while now that sprung from the very first rumour of the bike’s arrival in India. And even though it will be KTM’s biggest offering in the country yet, it was never considered to cost a fortune. Instead, the company is expected to price it aggressively around Rs 8.5-9 lakh. This will put it in close proximity to the Triumph Street Triple which costs Rs 9.19 lakh and its higher-spec variant, the Street Triple RS at Rs 11.13 lakh. (All prices ex-showroom).

Availability

KTM will bring the bike to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and assemble it at its plant in Chakan, near Pune. And according to dealers, the 790 Duke will only be available in limited numbers. Nevertheless, a few KTM dealers are accepting bookings for a varying token amount of Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 and are already displaying bikes at showrooms.

Engine

The 790 Duke comes with a 799cc, parallel-twin motor under its tubular steel frame. The motor churns out 105bhp of power and 86Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox along with a slipper clutch. It also comes with a two-way quick shifter.

Cycle Parts

The bike uses 43mm inverted forks up front and a monoshock at the rear sourced from WP. Meanwhile, braking hardware comprises of 300mm dual discs with four-piston radial callipers up front and a 240mm single disc with a single-piston floating calliper at the rear.

Features

The 790 Duke’s electronic package is loaded to the brim. It gets LED lighting for the headlamp, tail lamp and turn signals along with a full-colour TFT instrument cluster that is Bluetooth enabled. The rider aids include a lean-sensitive cornering ABS, three-mode traction control system that can be disengaged along with four riding modes- street, rain, sport, track and a Supermoto mode, similar to the current 390 Duke.
