Suzuki might turbocharge Intruder successor

Suzuki has filed patents in Japan for a turbocharged V-twin cruiser motorcycle. While the patents don’t reveal the motorcycle’s identity, it is quite evident that it would be a successor to the Intruder M1800R.
The perimeter frame, styling and the engine layout of the new motorcycle is similar to the M1800R. It even gets a final shaft drive. However, on the right hand side of the engine is the biggest change – a turbocharger. On the left side of the bike lies an air intake which feeds fresh air into the turbocharger, while the headers from both cylinders feed exhaust gas into the turbine. The spent exhaust gas has been routed back towards the exhaust pipe, which has been positioned above the rear tyre. The fuel tank has been moved lower and backwards to make room for this setup.

Forced induction not only boosts the performance, but also helps in better combustion of fuel and improves the engine’s efficiency and emissions. While forced induction in two-wheelers is not a new concept, manufacturers have been working towards reviving the technology in the last few years. Suzuki’s most recent attempt at turbocharging was the Recursion concept, shown at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show. It is also rumoured that the next-generation Hayabusa will feature turbocharging too. However, all of these are speculations, and the company is yet to comment on these. We expect Suzuki to reveal more details during the 2017 Tokyo Auto Show, next month.
