Energica unveils electric café racer

Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica has pulled the wraps off their latest creation – the Midnight Racer. This café racer is a custom electric bike based on the Eva that has been created by Energica.

Apache Custom Motorcycles, an Italian custom motorcycle builder, helped Energica design the Eva for them. The aim was to create a motorcycle that looks like a 1970s Grand Prix bike. The fairing on the Midnight Racer is hand made and took over 240 hours of work. The headlight has been taken from an old rally car. The British Racing Green paint scheme was chosen for an elegant look.

Powering this motorcycle is a 100kW motor that has the ability to do 0-100kmph in just three seconds. The Midnight Racer can be ridden for 201km (in eco mode) over one full charge, which is pretty good for an electric bike. Just like the regular Eva, this bike too gets a host of features like fast charging, park assistant, digital instrumentation with incorporated GPS and bluetooth functions and switchable ABS.

The Energica Midnight Racer is just a one-off motorcycle showcasing the companies’ design and engineering capabilities, and we’re happy that that’s the case. While Energica’s other designs appeal to us, this one has elements that don’t gel with each other – the neo-retro look hasn’t quite been achieved here.
