2020 Honda Africa Twin in the works

-Might get more powerful 1080cc engine and updated DCT 

-Likely to get a cosmetic overhaul

-Could be unveiled at the 2019 EICMA

The adventure-touring segment seems to be the talk and walk of the town in today’s world with major players like BMW and Ducati updating their bikes to meet demands from customers. Now, it is the Africa Twin’s turn to get an overhaul. While these are still rumours, it is but obvious that Honda is working on a 2020 version of their adventure-touring motorcycle. 

The 2020 Honda Africa Twin is expected to be powered by a 1080cc, parallel-twin engine that is likely to produce 95bhp; around 6.5bhp more than the current bike’s 998cc motor.  The Africa Twin’s dual clutch transmission (DCT) is also expected to be updated to be smoother and more precise. It could also get a bigger fuel tank just shy of 20-litres. There also could be a TFT-dash to replace the LCD unit, and open possibilities of Bluetooth connectivity, multimedia support and navigation. Honda may also upgrade the 2020 model’s electronic package with rider aids and keyless ignition. 

Apart from the internals, the 2020 Africa Twin could also get an aggressive new face and body. According to this render by a Japanese magazine, the bike's design language could be in tune with Honda’s other new products like the CBR1000RR Fireblade and CBR650R. We can expect Honda to unveil the 2020 Africa Twin later this year at the 2019 EICMA. The bike is sure to arrive in India a few months after its global launch and will compete against the BMW R1250 GS and Ducati Multistrada 1260.
