All-new 821cc Ducati Monster spied

An all-new version of the Ducati Monster has been spotted for the first time ever. Based on the Monster 1200’s all-new platform, the bike will be powered by the liquid-cooled 821cc Testastretta 11° engine, also used in the Hyperstrada and Hypermotard series. Despite looking production-ready the official unveiling of the bike is a few months away, with rumours suggesting the Ducati World Week at Misano, in July as the possible platform for the launch.

Ducati hasn’t revealed the name of the bike, though speculations suggest that the bike will either be called Monster 821 or Monster 800. The bike shares the chassis, frame, fuel tank, seat and twin exhausts with its elder sibling, the recently launched Monster 1200, though the double-sided swing arm is a new addition.

Since it was launched in 1993, Ducati had stuck with air-cooled engines for the Monster series, which changed with the 2014 Monster 1200. For this new bike, the liquid-cooled 821cc engine will produce 110bhp and 89Nm of torque. The bike is expected to be offered with Ducati’s latest features like ABS, traction control and riding modes.

With Euro regulations getting stringent every passing day, it has become necessary for bike manufacturers to shift to liquid-cooled engines to keep getting good performances out of their products, while keeping emissions minimal. The new bike will most likely replace the Monster 796 to slot in between the Aisa-specific Monster 795 and the Hypermotard, though it will take quite a while for the bike to hit our roads. The naked bike segment has been generating quite a buzz in the market and this bike will go up against the likes of Triumph Speed Triple, Yamaha MT-09 and the Kawasaki Z800.
