    Introduction

Every year, right around monsoon, we take various precautions to protect our two-wheelers, including applying anti-rust solutions, hydrophobic coatings, and much more. Now that the number of EVs has increased, it’s time to address how to protect them in the rainy season. And for the ones that are curious, from our past experience of riding electric two-wheelers in the monsoon (Ather, Ola, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube), we can assure you that these are quite safe to own and can be used regularly even in this pouring weather.

    Dry parking area

One of the most recommended ways is to park your vehicle in a dry area. It can be in the basement, a common parking area in your society, or your personal parking. This will ensure your vehicle is not in contact with water when standing idle. Because if there’s water seeping into the switch cubes, charging ports or any exposed area, it would probably call for extra cleaning too.

    Use a waterproof cover

A waterproof cover would do wonders and increase the lifespan of your two-wheeler. It doesn’t let water get on the sensors, terminals or metal parts, which could then catch rust. Moreover, waterproof covers should always be a priority over water-resistant ones as the latter has its limitations in preventing water penetration.

    Timely check for rodents

Rats and rodents often step out of sewers as monsoon begins and easily crawl inside the scooter fairings or even near the engine head. This is followed by chewing off a number of wires and causing heavy damage to the scooter/bike. Moreover, EVs are loaded with wires and sensors everywhere inside the bodywork, so, we recommend peeping through the gaps and the rear section of your scooter to check for rodents.

Wash without pressure to clean the sensors on the outside

Electric two-wheelers can and should be ridden in all weather conditions just like petrol-based two-wheelers. The same stands true for riding them in monsoon too. However, we recommend you thoroughly clean your electric scooter or motorcycle after riding it when it rains or on water-logged roads. This helps to eliminate the dirt from the exterior sensors and other parts of the EV and lets it function flawlessly.
