BSA Motorcycles is a British marquee that is known for manufacturing classic retro motorcycles in the pre-1950s era. At its peak, BSA was the largest motorcycle producer in the world, along with Triumph and Norton Villiers.
In October 2016, India’s Mahindra Group bought the BSA brand for £3.4 million, via its subsidiary - Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd. The Indian arm was founded with a vision to reintroduce iconic motorcycle brands in India and global markets.
In December 2021, Classic Legends unveiled the BSA Goldstar, a 650cc modern-retro roadster, at the Motorcycle Live event at the NEC Birmingham, UK. This paved the way for Classic Legends to foray into the international market with the resurrection of the iconic BSA Goldstar. The BSA brand currently operates in the European market, but Classic Legends has plans for its global expansion.
The BSA Goldstar has been spotted on test in India on multiple occasions, and an India launch is expected sometime in late 2023 or early 2024. Besides this, the company recently showcased the BSA Scrambler 650 concept at the Motorcycle Live 2022 event at the NEC Birmingham, UK. The Scrambler 650 concept is based on the Goldstar, and according to the company, it is a design study to gauge customer feedback on a possible future product.
While the BSA Goldstar rivals the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 in Europe, the BSA Scrambler 650, once launched, will compete against the upcoming Royal Enfield Sherpa 650, the scrambler version of the Interceptor 650.
The long-term road map for BSA motorcycles is to curate an ecosystem of lifestyle experiences for its customers by leveraging its capabilities in design and engineering to design lifestyle products that capture the ethos of retro motorcycling.
