Yamaha MT-09 ABS: Details Explained

Yamaha has launched the MT-09 in the Japanese market. The naked roadster motorcycle has been updated both in terms of cosmetics as well as mechanicals. The changes include a new engine, a new frame, new wheels, a revised exhaust note, a new Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and revised styling. There are two variants on offer Standard and SP. The MT-09 ABS is priced at Yen 1,100,000 (Rs 7.36 lakh), while the MT-09 SP ABS is priced at Yen 1,265,000 (Rs 8.46 lakh). Although the arrival of the Yamaha MT-09 in the Indian market seems highly unlikely, let's take a look at the details of the same.

Engine From Left

Engine

Powering the MT-09 is a new 888cc inline three-cylinder water-cooled engine that is based on the crossplane concept and sits in a new lightweight CF aluminium die-cast frame. This engine produces 118bhp at 10,000rpm and 93Nm at 7,000rpm. All this power and torque is put down via a six-speed gearbox. The company used to retail the MT-09 in its BS4 avatar in the Indian market. The BS4 model was powered by a 847cc engine that used to churn out 111.8bhp of power and 87.5Nm of twist.

Right Rear Three Quarter

Design

The new MT-09 is a sharp, aggressive and sporty looking motorcycle that features an unconventional design for its headlamp, tank extensions on both sides with graphics on it, an underbelly exhaust, a single-piece seat, a sleek tail section and a sharp 14-litre fuel tank. The naked roadster motorcycle has a total of four colours on offer. The MT-09 ABS is available with Pastel Dark Gray, Deep Purplish Blue Metallic C and Matte Dark Grey Metallic 6 colour option. However, the MT-09 SP ABS is only available in the Black Metallic X colour option.

Head Light

Features

The naked roadster motorcycle is offered with features like a bi-function LED headlamp, LED position lamp, 3.5-inch coloured instrument cluster, four riding modes, cruise control, quick shifter, traction control, slipper clutch and a new Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).

Front Tyre

Hardware

The suspension duty is handled by telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm at the rear. Meanwhile, for braking, it employs a dual disc at the front and a single disc at the rear assisted by ABS. The naked roadster rides on 17-inch wheels. Those wheels are wrapped with tyres having 120mm width at the front and 180mm width at the rear.
