Jawa Standard, Forty-Two BS6: What’s New?

Classic Legends had launched the BS6 models of the Jawa Standard and Forty-Two in March 2020 in India. Back then, the company had only revealed the prices of the bikes but not specifications. After two months now, Jawa has revealed all the details of the Standard and Forty-Two on its official website. We tell you what all is new in both bikes.

Drop in performance

For the new BS6-compliant engine, the manufacturer has used cross port technology which was claimed to have kept the power figures unchanged. However, the official website now reveals that the power and torque have dropped by 0.9bhp and 0.5Nm. The 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine produces 26.1bhp and 27.05Nm. It continues to be mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Increased weight

Although the drop in power is marginal, the kerb weight of both bikes have also increased by 2kg which is bound to hamper the real-world performance to some extent. The Standard and Forty-Two both tip the scales at 172kg, as opposed to the kerb mass of 170kg of their BS4 counterparts.

Unchanged styling and cycle parts

The distinctive old-school styling of the Jawa Standard and Forty-Two have been retained. While the former is a replica of a popular Jawa model from the olden days, the latter is its funkier version with a couple of different elements which lend it a modern appeal.

Both bikes continue to be based on a double cradle frame and ride on an 18-17-inch wheel combination. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks and dual shock absorbers while braking is handled by a disc up front and a drum at the rear with a single-channel ABS. A double disc variant with dual channel ABS is also on offer.

Price hike

The prices of the Jawa Standard and Forty-Two have witnessed a hike ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,928, depending on their variants. While the Standard BS6 has been pegged from Rs 1,73,164 to Rs 1,83,170, the prices of the Forty-Two lie in the range of Rs 1,60,300 to Rs 1,69,242 (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
