Ducati could debut V4-powered Multistrada by 2020

- Likely to come as a new variant in the Multistrada line-up

- Expected to churn out around 190bhp of power

- Will also get radar sensors for added safety

Ducati has launched its flagship adventure-tourer, the Multistrada 1260 Enduro in India, today. While this motorcycle is powered by a 1260cc, L-twin motor, a new report suggests that the Italian bikemaker is working on a new variant of the Multistrada which will be powered by the V4 powerplant. 

Ever since Ducati had revealed its V4 platform in 2017 for the Panigale, the arrival of more products based on the same powerplant was predictable. If reports are to be believed, the Italian manufacturer has been testing the Multistrada V4 for one and a half years in Bologna, where Ducati’s factory is located. Expected to make its debut by 2020, this new Multi will reportedly be introduced as an added variant while the ongoing L-twin variants will continue to be on sale. 

Talking about the engine, this new Multistrada is speculated to churn out around 190bhp of power from its V4 powerplant. This is considerably higher than the 153bhp power output from the L-twin motor of the ongoing Multistrada 1260. Besides the more powerful engine, the new ADV is likely to come equipped with radar sensors for added safety, about which we had reported in April last year. As a part of Ducati’s Advanced Rider Assist System (ASAR), these sensors will be mounted on the front and rear of the motorcycle. The rear sensors will detect fast approaching vehicles from behind and alert the rider about a possible collision. Meanwhile, the sensors at the front will help the rider in following a vehicle at a safe distance.

While the Ducati Multistrada V4 is likely to make its global debut next year, we might witness the unveiling of a concept model at this year’s Ducati World Premier or EICMA show in Milan.
