KTM 390 Adventure review

2 months ago by Aditya976 views

I had very high hopes from ktm 390 adventure but it turned out to be an disappointment. A bike priced closed to 4 lakh rupees should have some kind of refinement.
There is vibrations at low rpms in the handlebars and foot pegs.
I wasn't sure when you tubers said that low rpm stalling is a problem, but when i rode it I could not believe it. Its a serious flaw. At speeds of 18-25 km per hour in 2nd gear the bike gets jerks like anything, one needs to drop down or rev hard to get some life into the bike. Major major turn off. Why should i pay extra to get a sprocket change, a bike should be adequate enough to be bought from a factory. In that sense RE has done a commendable job with the newer bikes.
The ktm maybe good for fast riders (squids) but certainly does not justify the adventure tag as low end torque is 0. They are making a fool out people. I would recommend bmw 310gs as its a well balanced motorcycle with decent enough power.

Starting with buying experience, Taking ownership of RC 390 Adventure was quite a hassle free job after completing the paperwork. The bike was delivered on 10th day. As soon as you sit on the bike you feel like God. The tall seat height is aggressive and sharp which contributes to it. Start is quite normal like other bikes, but initial acceleration in first or second gear come with some good vibration, which continues to make their way to your foot pegs and your handle bar. Vibration kept on coming even in 3rd and 4th gear if you are riding below 4000 rpm mark. As soon as you reach in 5th gear or 4000 rpm mark, bike gets super smooth and here comes the real adventure. Performance wise the bike performs excellent on the highway. Road presence of this bike is awesome. Service and maintenance of bike is only what is included in regular for the first service. They charge you max 2000 Rs. and after that I have no idea as I have not yet reached that stage.
Pros are its looks, its high gear performance and riding comfort. Cons include high heat generation when riding in city traffic. It literally felt like you have put your leg in fire or something very hot. Also head light performance is not that great as expected from a adventure tourer. Seat height is 850 mm, it is very difficult to control for short riders. Overall if one is looking to let go the above mentioned cons this bike is really good, go for it and it wont make you regret.

Pros: Switchable and cornering ABS works spectacularly. Front travel suspension is smooth, acceleration is magnificent and the ride quality is excellent. This is however not a perfect bike and had quite a few drawbacks.
Cons: Handle height is low, seat height is too high which makes off-roading difficult and commute uncomfortable. But handle raisers can make things easy. Low end torque is lagging and bike struggles in heavy traffic and off-road at lower rpm. Stiffer back suspension and small wind shield.

A bike for beginners wanting to explore beautiful India. Good mileage, good suspension. Awesome feeling when you rev it up. good for off road, great budget bike with all the premium specs, sturdy and reliable. Power shifter traction control abs and a cool display.
Cons- A little bigger for guys 5 ft. 4 or less but can adjust once they ride it for a while. Can heat up sometimes in the traffic but who cares if you like touring. Sometimes low torque issues but manageable.
